Building new PC. How would this run?

The 680i is a little outdated now, get either of these motherboards Asus P5N-D 750i $159.99 or eVGA 750i FTW $199.99 The asus is better bang for your buck.

Change the video card to either of these eVGA 9800GTX+ $199.99 or Sapphire HD4850 $184.99 (I would recommend an intel chipset for this card)

I would also change the RAM to a 2x2gb or 2x1gb kit, however theres nothing good a tigerdirect.

Looks great now, best to change the PSU though. That only has 1 6pin pci-e cable and the 9800gtx needs 2 so this would be a good choice.

Also, since you would be buying the RAM from newegg, why not buy everything there? Prices are better there too

I just got that power supply. Havent put it in, just make sure ur case is BIG, because all the cords take a bit of space.

One note on that mobo a lot of people have had video corruption problems. PC crashes when viewing videos and playing games even, so go to EVGA website and read it for yourself.

Everything else looks good.

If you're worried about issues with the nvidia chipset go with an intel chipset. For a single video card go with a motherboard with a P43/45 chipset. If you plan to use multiple video cards in future go with an x38/x48 board and an ATI card like the hd4850 or 4870, since intel chipsets only support crossfire.

Before you ask, yes you can also use an nvidia card with an intel chipset.

That depends on the size of your monitor. Up to 22 inches i'd recommend the hd4850, and for 24 inches the hd4870. The hd4850 has a better price/performance ratio than its big brother.

Hey there,

I would consider getting a different case, as I didn't find that one all that sturdy. If you'd like something around the same price, I suggest the Antec Three Hundred (it also has free shipping).

On the graphics card, I think that, if you can afford it, the HD 4870 is worth it. It will last you a bit longer before you need to buy another card or upgrade, so it's something to consider.

EDIT: You also need an operating system, so I hope you're not forgetting that.

looks great but i recommend a seagate drive( i know maxtor and seagate is the same now but i don't know if their quality control is the same) I had a lot of problem with my old maxtor

since the 9800gt is just a 8800gt with a new name get the 8800gt as its much cheaper. this one is only $115 after rebate
