Audiosurf ($9.95) and Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines ($19.95) are the two big non-VALVe games I would recommend.

The Orange Box ($49.95) is a great deal but if you don't have any VALVe games at all, the VALVe Complete Pack is by far the much better deal. You get their entire catalogue of games (21 games) for $99.95, a catalogue worth individually $269.10.

If you like first-person shooters, you would be silly not to get The Orange Box unless you already own some of the Half-Life games.
