Don't waste your money on this... With the horrible PSU, you will never upgrade your graphic card, and the price is outrageous.

Go with a solution like the people said above and get a small form factor PC. Some cases even come with a handle on top.

Once again

Once again:

It's not because they managed to make it work that it is a good idea.

Anyone who pays with their very own money the hardware should not attempt this.

Clearly, you have never dealt with people who have fried their PC because of a stupid graphic card upgrade with a crappy PSU. It is a very high risk with extreme consequences.

Sure they managed to get a 7950 running, that doesn't mean that in a few months the PC will have survived.

What they are doing is taking a ridiculously uncalculated risk. Period. If it works now, then good for them, anyone else souldn't try it.

There is a recommended PSU from the manufacturers because PSU vary a lot in quality, even when rated equal. If the PSU isn't strong enough in the long run, you can pretty much destroy the entire computer. Like I said before, you should never overestimate the PC. The card is rated at 500W by AMD and there is a reason for it.

EDIT: The 7870 actually consums much less than a gtx 560, so you were right on that point, if it consumes less than a gtx555, than I guess it's ok then. I admit my mistake on that one, but a 7970, I still woudn't try it. My argument about not pushing a PSU to its limit still stands though. It's a bad idea.

Gamespot did a test where they put in a 680 and it crashed all the time.

[QUOTE="jonleeprice"][QUOTE="Klipsh"] If you think gaming with friends is sad, I feel bad for you.Klipsh

Taking you pc towers round to friends houses is IMMENSELY sad, if your over the age of say 15, tbh with you i cannot think of anything sadder than that...... *starts the cogs running to think of somthing sadder*...... nope nothing comes to mind.

I still don't see how it's sad. How is hanging out with friends bad, regardless of what you're doing?

Lol, dude......it just is, at your age (i'm guessing you are not a kid), when your with your your mates you should be out meeting girls and getting drunk and doing stupid things etc etc not all sitting in the same room with your desktops playing with each other......THAT IS SOOO F~~KING NERDY ITS UNREAL :D Ps but if you enjoy it meh who am i to say anything ;)

It could have been worst!!! Had that useless PSU short circuited the PC, everything could have died. Stupid idea.

Agreed. I'm surprised it even booted up.

I can't believe how many trolls there are. The guy is asking a very simple question regarding whether there will be new iterations of X51 any time soon, not to ask for your advice on why building your own computer is so much better than buying a pre-built one from the "overpriced" alienware.

A simple no would have sufficed. I also do not know of any known issues with the current system that may warrant any updates to design.

One suggestion I have for OP is that he should go to www.microsoftstore.com to get the same $1250 configuration for 50 bucks less, free shipping as well.

another kool kid with too much money to spend. turn around too quickly and whack your backpack into a lamppost and say bye to that $1250.

soon as you find that psu is too weak, then the whole system is useless as you probably cant fit another into that case. with a desktop then youd just have a $60 upgrade, with an x51 you need a whole new pc.

soon as you want a new processor, whole system is useless again because finding a motherboard that will fit it will be a nightmare, especially in a couple of years when they arent producing x51's any more. so you need to buy a whole new pc again while the desktop owner just buys a new mobo/cpu

when you do upgrade, that case is gonna be completely useless. with a desktop you could keep the same case for 10 years but as soon as youve upgraded your x51 as far as you can the only place for that case would be the rubbish bin.

to the post above;

we arent just offering this advice for the good of our health, we are doing it because we know he will waste alot of money and effort with the x51.

Well now they changed the $1250 one from sandy bridge to ivy bridge. I was going to get the $699 one but now that theres ivy bridge I may buy the $1250 one.

You guys know if the i7 3.4 3770 runs cooler at stock than the i7 3.4 2600?

I'll buy either one when my student loans gets here. I needed a computer anyways.

When you want to learn how to build your own rig you already have a badass case you can use the cyberpower case lol for atx or micro atx board.

just add new mobo/cpu when u want to upgrade.

cyberpower uses off the shelf motherboards so off the shelf upgrade motherboard in future would fit that case.

Don't try to convince the dude to build his own one or get another prebuilt. He just wants the Alienware.

He even madea thread saying he doesn't mind low graphics settings to excuse his upcoming purchase.

Anyways, just let him get the Alienware, he'll regret it, that's for sure :)

The only way I would consider one of these X51s again is if I already had a desktop beast and wanted a little Jr. computer hooked up to my TV for the occasional older game. But then again, I already have one of those... my laptop.
