I would go with the Intel Q6600 quad core. Also you might want to look in getting 2 of the 8800GTS (G92) as they are about half the price of the GTX and get very very close to the same performace as the GTX, just go look at some benchmarks where they compare the 2. That goes with the processors too, if your not sure between Intel or AMD quad, just check some benchmarks.

Quad cpu's right now and most likely a year from now will be a waste(cant use all the power)2-4gb of ram is plenty,The raptor hardrives are a waste, Two 8800gts 512mb in sli is plenty fast and cost less, If your going with vista 32bit you might as well stick with Windows XP, Sound card is good.

Ok the cost difference isnt to big, 1000-1500 can make you a monster of a computer.

I'm in the same boat as you right now and i'd say your rig would be great except the CPU isn't all that great. Yes its a quad core but the price/performance ratio is well crap compared to intels chips. I'm an AMD man myself but you can't deny intels superiority right now. I'm debating between the Core 2 Q6600 but am more than likely going to buy the new E8400 just a duel core but for the next year or two it will be a better CPU (for gaming) than a quad core of lesser speed

Well then get an intel core 2 duo E8400 CPU.Donot go with AMD.

Get a 780i board and get 3 8800GTX's in SLI.Make sure to get a quality 1000W PSU for that.

4GB RAM and you got yourself pretty much the fastest computer you can buy without paying ridiculous premiums on some products like the extreme quad cores and 8800 ultra's.

Quad CPU's is a waste? Depends on how you use your rig. The more you multi-task the more likely you are to use the power of a Quad Core.

2 - 4 gig is enough? Not for me, of course I am a software developer, and I use my rig to play games. But I am running 3 gig right now (all my mobo/32 bit windows will recognize of the 4 gig I have installed).

So I am about to go Quad + 8 gig, because I max out 3 gig all of the time and its annoying.

Grab a E8400 and a 3870x2. You can grab two, but they wont work in Xfire until Catalyst 8.2, which is a couple weeks away. 1 single 3870x2 is the best single card on the market right now and are less $$$ than a GTX. CoolerMaster PurePowerPro 750wt minimum

E8400, 2x1gb/2x2gb + Quad Crossfire 3870x2 @ 19x12 = FTW :D

First of all, the guy who recommended that is noob because that mobo is an Intel LGA775 board. :|

Go for:
- Core 2 Duo E8400
- X38/X48 board of your choice
- You can go for better RAM than Kingston. Something from the likes of Crucial, OCZ, TEAM or Geil would do good.
- LG? I prefer sticking with a Sony-NEC, Pioneer or Samsung.
- Go for a single 500GB HDD from Western Digital.
- A single HD3870 X2 or two (once the drivers allow it) will server you better.
- You'll need more PSU muscle to power that. Go for a 750-800w+ unit from a respectable manafacturer.
- Vista Home Premium 64 bit is better, due to the amount of RAM both your system and GPU's will be accessing.
- Sound card is fair enough.

He only wants it for gaming. What you reccomended is completely pointless overkill.

Death over me is right, those recommandations are over-kill and they are only for hard applications (like 3D work)

First off, the rig I am going to is not for 3-d applications. A hard number crunching SQL query will eat through 3 - 4g of memory like its going out of style. Please don't speak on stuff you don't know about. I only do Web Development and Application development, nothing with 3-d graphics.

Second, if you would actually read my post, I never reccommended anyone going to the specs I plan to use. My experience tells me that is what I need for MY needs.

Finally, how can you say any rig is overkill when you have games that easily eat rigs and move on like its no big deal (e.g. Crysis, Hellgate, Witcher, etc) These games, depending on my settings will come close to maxing my memory out without breaking a sweat, and I rarely run anything maxed (although, I do play most games at 1920x1200).
