this, but since it worked earlier already, it means you have a capable video card in your PC. you just have to update drivers and directx. latest directx is also usually applied with the game installation, so it leaves the video card (=GPU) drivers, and possibly the sound card drivers.

in order to find the correct drivers, you need to find out what model GPU and sound card you have. having Service Pack 3 installed in Windows XP is also strongly recommended. you can get it through Windows Update utility, if you don't already have it installed.

try this; Start -> Run; type "dxdiag" and press enter. Then choose the "Display" tab from the window that opens up.

The "Name" field should show you what GPU you have. it might not be accurate if you don't have any drivers installed, but it gives you enough info to find them.
