camping can be a legit strategy. for example, in BFBC2 if you have 2 out of 3 control points you should just stay and defend those. if you enemy doesnt attack they lose tickets and if they attack and your team defends you can mow them down. camping has no place in games like quake though, however if you were camping in quake you probably wouldnt get good stats anyway because its way easier to hit a dude who's not moving or stay in a tiny area than it is to hit somebody who's racing through the map and jumping around a lot

I personally don't mind camping as long as it isn't the spawn points for a team. I know I had a fun time having to clear out my teams spawn in BF2142.

It depends on the situation, but camping is a legit strategy.

If it's hurting your team, ie. you're on the counter-terrorist team in CS and the bomb timer is ticking away...then it's stupid. There are many, many examples, but I don't feel like listing them all out.

If you disagree with the fact that camping is a legit strategy, then you're opinion is invalid.

[QUOTE="Crimsader"]Camping is anything else but not a strategy. It's a noobish way to kill a remarkable stronger opponent than you, by waiting for him and shooting him in the back. I don't know why most people voted for "strategy". Personally I ban the campers for an hour.

Well, if that's what it takes to win, why not? Plus a "remarkable stronger" oponent knows camping spots and doesn't get killed easily.

Camping is intended as strategic gameplay holding an area, may it be a room, a corridor, or a section of the gameplay map and defending that area from enemies. Sure it is alot easier gameplay then just rushing around looking for kills, but it shouldn't be shunned by players, remember it is only a game. Many people who complain about camping don't try it out. I guarantee if they did it as well they wouldn't complain anymore its effective gameplay.

Uhh it really depends on how they are doing it. In most cases I will say that there are campers and you can't play online unless you can deal with them. shooting a guy then hiding in the corner because you have low health is not camping. Hiding in the buildings to protect a capture point is not camping.

going to the same cheap, hard to get at, easy to shoot from spot on the map EVERY TIME because it has a clear advantage is camping and is also lame I have a certain level of tolerance for camping and I think there are different fuzzy rules for some games, in general I put up with campers but I don't camp myself.

My vote would be for the middle option, Camping should be discouraged but it depends on the game, the mode and the match status.

"Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae" wth ? is this has to do something with halo ? if yes , then you sir are in wrong forum :) camping will never be legit strategy , why ? because noone will accept it ! admit it , noone likes campers , noone makes montage gameplay showing them camp , noone camps in competative cups , tourneys camping is a cowards way out 0. KDR :) Camping reminds me flahs minigames or wii games where you have a crosshair and you sit , aim and shoot at other people , if i would want that i wouldnt pay 60$ , i would go find free flash game where you can shoot stick figures all day long ...Farkeman

Look movie 300 that's Battle of Thermopylae not some HALO related thing like you thought.Campers aren't noobs because many campers are snipers which means that I can't run around map

you guys have poor fps experience if your saying that camping is legit strategy , its not a strategy at all !

i bet you only play counter strike and cod games where camping has more benefits than downfalls and it acts as ultimate strategy - easy way to increase your kdr without any skill or brain ussage

Just check the cornes!

lmao.

I have found that "noob" is one of those terms mainly used by "noobs"

that being said, what i really find "noobish" is the people that do this child-like whining and complaining, because someone got the best of them, by using a valid tactic... that (judging by this thread and many more like it) works so very well.

seriously people, if you spent more time improving your skills, observance, and tactics... instead of coming on these sites and complaining cause someone used a tactic on you... They might not get the best of you so much... Just a thought!

Depends on the game really. Camping is ok for snipers but thats just about it. If we are talking about something like the Battlefield series it would be silly to expect a sniper to run around like an assault class.

In some cases camping is annoying, however I hate knifing when I'm shooting at the knifer.

But I must admit it can be fun running up to a sniper sitting right infront of him for a second and then put a knife to his head.

Give a person a sniper rifle. Do you expect them not to camp? It can be cheap sometimes (spawn camping), but overall it's a valid strategy.

True. But, the game should limit the number of snipers to say 1 or 2.

I think by default there shouldn't be a limit, but if a server wants it then so be it... that's the way I see it.

I dont see how gameplay regulation is even similar to copy protection....plenty of games have class regulations, and it works well for them.

Hitler should've killed them, I've been playing MW2 in the last few days, and I really can't understand why people camp, the maps are already big, but there are too many balconies and such, people hide in buildings, oh, it's disgusting. See, I don't really mind camping if it's done by a sniper, but as soon as I walk out of my spawn position, if I get shot, man I get really pissed, and camping will be there in every multiplayer game, for me it ruins the fun, it screws up the game's pace, it's cheap, I hate the fact that me, a good player, gets shot in the back because some dude was there camping behind this or that door, or something like that.

there are some that complain just because its regulation, then say this kind of crap.

I dont see how limiting just about any game to 1 or 2 snipers, just because some kids complain about campers. Is all that great an idea either.

It's fine, what's really annoying is when somebody has the opportunity to shoot you with their gun, and they pull out the CARL G AND ROCKET YOU IN THE FACE.denter21

Camping may be an annoying playstyle, sure. There is nothing more annoying than walking into a room only to be greeted by some asshat with a knife to your back. However, it is to be expected in games like these.

The people that complain about camping are typically people that don't know how to deal with it and shouldn't be playing FPS's in my opinion. They should be playing a game like Runescape where skill/strategy is moot and it's all about how much time you spend playing the game.

Camping = a smart way to play a FPS

That's just my opinion.

To be it's only bad when people camp an incap/spawn. Others wise set up a tent on Mnt. Snipe and have at it.

Did I just read skill and camp in the same sentence? Seriously camping is the lowest form of play style especially in games that dont have radar or have radar jamming options.

Camping is a subject that has taken lots of heat over the time because of peoples diff play styles. Some players are the run and gun in your face action type while some like to hang back and be tactical. Personally I am the hang back type. when i play an FPS, I play it as if It was real life. I camp at cover and only move when needing to advance my postion. I try to think tactically. In real war you do not see combatants runing around like chickens with their heads cut off. How ever you also do not see them just sitting in one place hoping someone will come by. Now the excpetion to this is if your setting up an ambush point. But to cut a short story long camping is a tactical part of almost any "realistic" FPS.

The thing is, I play with my headphones on, so when I hear footsteps, check my radar and see no friendlies nearby, I hide. Naturally the enemy runs past me and I shoot them in the back and of course I'm called a camper seconds after that. Thing is I don't sit and wait for somebody to come by, I just use the opportunity when it presents itself. After that I continue moving.

camping is the cheapest and most ridiculous thing you can do in fps games ...

its not fun
its not fair
its way to easy
its lame in overall
if every1 camps there will be silence and fps turns into splinter cell type game , most of mw2 servers turn out like that , sometimes it looks like you are playing alone even in match box sized maps ...

Farkeman

Sigh.... how is it unfair? you get killed by a camper... you know where he is. You say its not skill or strategy, yet running in or flanking is? .... yes.... I would love to see our armies not camping.... and watch the memorial walls grow 10x larger.

Camping can piss a lot of people off so it would be considered to be a noob tactic. However, strategically patrolling/holding a small radius of an area is not at all a noob tactic and a lot of people think that it is camping instead and start to rage.

I think we should being drawing a line here for campers, for me if the "camper" is in a spot on the map that is in play, reachable and generally fair okay go ahead and snipe and do whatever, the problem I have is when you are camping in some ridiculous sport that over looks a spawn or is at some angle where no matter what the "camper" is always aiming at the backs of people then that is a problem since it does offer an unfair advantage in away on trying to take that guy out.

Think of it this way... a sniper is a camper class. He takes a shot, then maybe moves to another camp spot. The option is in the game and personally I hate it too, but it is a valid (boring) tactic, which does not help your team to push forward. Now if this was for real on the frontlines or airsoft/paintball... where it could hurt/kill... would you be a crazy manic running around? Ingame we have medics out of game we play it cautious and with proper intel.

I think it is okay to camp if you are new to the game or if you ar bad at it. But if you are a 10th prestige level 70 in modern warfare 2, then that is kind of rediculous, no offenseto any10th prestige70's though. :D

I play how I need to play. If camping is going to let me get the most enjoyment from the game then I will camp. If rushing gives me the most enjoyment then that's my strategy. I'm always annoyed when I get killed by a camper but I just check the place next time.

And To those who feel that Camping is a really noobish tatic , think about this

>U just got pwned by a noob tatic , what makes you ? beyond nooblike ? And camping is not easy when facing good players with sharp eyes . If u are getting camped all the time , Just be a camper urself .. Most of the time , The Best Camper is The best anti - camper simply becoz he already could expect what lies before him when he directs a assault to the enemy base .

PS:When i play FPSes , i do camp / hide to trick chasing opponents then flank them from the sides or BS them but i dont just sit there and do nth except for waiting ...(referring to BC 2 bush snipers ...recons that dont scout at all).

Correct. Camping is treated the same way as "Back Dooring" is in DoTA/Heroes/League .... so many people whine about it, yet its perfectly legal, a good strategy and often pays of against "noobs" that think the only way to play them is to stay in the lane. or for the sake of this analogy, people who think shooters should be constant arcade fests ... yes because in the army you run out in the open and pray you aim faster right? who are the real noobs here? yea ... you non campers, so please stfu and stop dying n whining because someone actually uses cover... and doesnt think the only side of FPS that is "Pro" is how fast you can aim at someone.

And what about TF2? I know I have played many games where the team consists of Snipers and Engineers. Is camping really helping your team win? Or does it hurt them more. Same goes for BF:BC2. If you are one of those people who decide to camp and not help take objectives then you are causing nothing more but hurt for your team.

Depends if it's a TEAM holding a area OR someone that is 1 and 19 and hurting the team so he/she is taking a TimeOut so he doesn't do more damage to the team OR just so NOOB who can't play worth a darn and is hideing out. so it all depends on the SitRep

If you are 1 and 19 you aren't camping...

Just bad players I guess? good campers can keep the enemy team at bay while your assault team goes in. same with BC2. you are also act as a nice little dose of fear to make them hesitate an attack. It can go either way, its down to the player, but camping is as essential as anything else. people who are daydreaming and die to a camper have no right to complain at all.

What you just described isn't camping. Camping isn't strategically "keeping the enemy team at bay". If your sniping is keeping the enemy back while your team rushes objectives thats effective. That is called team work. Now, if you are merely sitting on an objective and not capturing it and just picking off people that come by, THAT is camping.

Camping is fine. the other day on BFBC2, there were some campers in a spot that put a nice hurting on my team. We'd get killed and didn't know where the shots came from. Well, i had a guess of where. I flanked the campers by taking a nice, extremely long walk around the map and killed them all...well, most of them. Don't whine about camping; get off your ass and do something about it.

i'm fine with campers in general but i hate it when its basically 10 snipers just sniping you with an extremeley accurate sniper. I'd like to cite bfbc2 for this one. I would love the game 10x more if i didnt have to be worried about being sniped the moment and turn the corner becuase the opposing team has a squad of snipers all with guns that are accurate as hell and get even more accurate with unlocks (or they get the ability for rapid fire). I personally am a terrible sniper but i can appreciate sniping if its something that takes a lot of concentration, timing and you cant pull of 10 kills because there just happens to be an unprotected strip of road that people have to cross.
