I just got my new PC and found out it only has vista 32 bit, home premium. I have 4 gigs of memory, so can vista 32 recognize that I have 4 gigs of memory? Will vista 64 bit run better than vista 32 bit, with a PC with 8 gigs of memory? I have the box and key, and everything for vista 32 bit, can I request microsoft send me a 64 bit version? Will it cost anything?

No, you will have to buy 64-bit vista. If you brought your computer from a manufacturer, such as dell or HP, you can request one, with additional charge. 32-bit runs better than 64-bit. Because there isn't alot of software and programs that run in 64-bit mode, but it will change later on..? 64-bit works fine though, I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and it works fine. You can get Vista Home at 64-bit also. If you have to buy it, you can buy the OEM verison for cheaper.

But you will need 64-bit to let the OS see and use 4GB of memory.

I bought my computer from a local custom PC shop. I have the vista home premium box, and key code thing. Its EOM though, not retail. Can I request a 64 bit vista since I have the box and key?

The thing with 32 bit, it can only recognize 4gigs of System AND video ram. So if you have 1 gig of GDDR3, and vista uses a whole gig just to run, youll be left with 1 use-able gig out of the 4.

4 gigs
-1 since it can only recognize 3 = 3

3 - 1 because vista uses a whole gig just to run = 2

2 - 1 (or whatever your video RAM is) = 1

so out of the 4, you have 1 free gig. i know, it sucks . I have 32 bit =/

I dont think they're going to send you a free copy of 64 because you have a key code and box. If thats what you mean.

ok, well I'm gonna tell the place where I bought it to give me 64. I mean I called em up to specify it, and they just gave me 32. The guy there was like "there is no 64, vista color can only go up to 32", he also said to NEVER OC ur processor, no matter how little. He's a complete moron. They also gave me the wrong mobo, ram, and a graphics card with the company I didn't want. Oh, and the didn't instal my retnention bracket for my cooler, they said it was for AMD, whne it clearly states LGA775 on it, and I have an e8500. Total BS

e8500 is an intel processor. It sounds like they knew less about PCs than I do, and i've only ever built one, and geting the parts arround for a second..You would of been better off asking these guys on the forum to put a parts list together and then just buying the things yourself. My dad had to deal with a local PC shop, they tend to be rip off joints they sold him a bad laptop, then sold him one for 1500 bucks that was on sale on newegg for $499, but they refused to give him a refund on their first bad laptop.

I actually did my homework here. I know I asked for great parts. Its just the shop that screwed up the order. I know the e8500 is an intel... you are very very high to think I meant that it was AMD. The people said that the bracket was for AMD, when its clearly for Intel setups. Also, these parts from newegg wuld cost about 100$ lesss than if I had it made by them.

I know all the parts, and I know they work together, don't tell me otherwise. The guy at the store was a moron. He said said ATI used SLI, and that SLI gives you barely any better preformance than just using one card alone.

if you bought it in a retail pack off the shelf i think it's included in the pack but i'ld advise sticking with 32bit for the moment then upgrade when you actually need that 4gb, you still might want to dual boot or install 32bit on a virtual pc incase all your programs don't work

Thats what I was saying, and you just proved my point even more. The people obviously either think you're really stupid, and are trying to hand you bs, or they're really stupid and have no idea what they're doing.
