Hi,

I got myself a HP Pavilion 15-e092ea. It has 8GB of RAM, an AMD A4-5000M Quad-Core Processor (1.5 GHz, 2 MB cache), and a Radeon HD 8330 graphics card with 3.98GB of memory. The computer has a 1TB hard drive with a screen resolution of 1366 x 768, if that helps.

I'm a fan of the GTA games but have never played much of 4 (played a lot of 5 on a friend's xbox). Always preferred playing games on PC and would love to run number 4 on my computer.

Many thanks to those who answer.

My laptop is weaker than yours in every regard, and I ran GTA4 well enough to play and finish the game. Actually, I guess my CPU is faster than yours, but also only dual-core. And the game is pretty CPU-heavy. I think you'd probably be able to manage, though. Especially with your max resolution being pretty much 720p (just a hair over), you should manage. The game is pretty unstable, and poorly optimized, so expect some iffy spots, with heavy framerate dips but, for the most part, it should run well enough to enjoy the game. Just in case, I'd recommend picking it up at a steep discount, during a steam sale, so you're not out much if it doesn't run well. It's discounted pretty often. I got the Complete GTA Pack (that is, every single GTA game, except the handheld ones, and 5, obviously) for like $10, over a year ago.

What is your GPU I find it hard to believe a hd 8330 can run GTAIV

@redskins26rocs: I've got an HD4670 1gb (which I'm pretty sure is weaker than a 8330, unless I'm totally misunderstanding how AMD's card lines and their numbers work. Plus only the 1gb of VRAM compared to the 8330's 4gb). Paired with a dual-core i5 2.27ghz, I managed usually 30-40 fps, albeit with dips into the 20s, at mostly medium settings and 720p.

Edit: It should be noted that when I played GTA4, I kept it patched at 1.0.4. There are tons of reports of later versions getting worse performance, especially for systems that could only barely handle it to begin with. And, sure enough, when I tried 1.0.7, it was completely unplayable, regardless of settings.

First resultThe AMD Radeon HD 8330 is an integratedDirectX 11.1 graphics card

There's a dead give away.

Looks like it struggles to get 20fps in Skyrim on even the lowest settings.
They dont even recommend playing Diablo 3 with that card.

Oooo. I suppose I am completely misunderstanding AMD's cards and their labels. Hahaha. Yeah, if that's an integrated card, scratch what I said about probably being able to manage. Where would it be getting the 3.98gb of RAM then? Does it share with the system memory?

Yeah it would use his system memory.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8330.92874.0.html

the performance of the Radeon HD 8330 is similar to the average Intel HD Graphics 4000

You're going to need a dedicated graphics card if you're going to play GTA4 on your PC.

Even then, i wouldn't recommend playing it with a 1.5ghz quad core, as GTA 4 is very CPU intensive.

@the_bi99man: I wouldn't ever be running it with all the settings completely maxed out. I'm used to playing the older GTA games so it wouldn't bother me if I was running it on low. I just wanted to know if I could run it in some way.

@the_bi99man: The place I got it from didn't mention the graphics card using the system memory, however if it does this is not a massive problem as there is a fairly generous amount of RAM. With the 8330 using the system memory, I should be left with just over 4GB of RAM.

It doesn't have a dedicated graphics card.
Your integrated card runs games on par with a Intel HD Graphics 4000, which is what they put in low-end consumer laptops.

You're going to need an actual graphics card if you want to play GTA 4.

GTA4 runs like shit on my PC, I'm sorry but a low end laptop CPU and integrated graphics won't cut it.

It's a terrible port that runs like crap for most people, irrelevant of how good their PC is.

@Nibroc420: I'm aware now that it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card. When you mention 'low end consumer laptops'...well I think the more appropriate term would be 'everyday laptops', but that's getting away from the topic. And you mention needing a graphics card..well I've seen everyday computers managing this game without one. They had faster hard drives, a bit more RAM and much faster processors of course, but they didn't have some fancy graphics card in there.

No you haven't.
GTA 4 requires a dedicated graphics card.

I dont understand, first you ask if your PC can run it.
We explain, NO, it cannot run it, you do not meet the requirements.

A faster HDD would just mean faster loading screens, and more than 8gb of ram isn't needed for any PC game on the market.

Your Processor is not fast enough.

You do not have a graphics card. Your integrated graphics chip is designed for word processing, HD movies, and could possibly run games like CS:GO or Torchlight on the lowest possible setting.

Why ask, if you're just going to argue.
Buy the game, see if we care. I'm only trying to help.

Hi,

Completely forgot about this.

Oh, and Nibroc420- you haven't really helped in any way. You've just been annoying. And it's funny really because after all of this technical babble you've been going on about, the computer runs the game rather well. Now I know people like yourself might sit at home with your expensive high end gaming computers and play the latest games completely maxed out, but I'm not interested in all that. I'm running the game on Medium using Full Resolution and I'm happy with that.

I might use forums, but I'm not stupid enough to go completely by what people like you say.

Could you post a screenshot of the graphical settings you are using and the FPS you get?

I didn't even doubt you could run it on low graphics but I wasn't sure how well it's going to be like, if over30 that's great

Ok to be honest you could probably run GTA4 at LOWEST settings but I really wouldn't recommend you to.
