I have an inspiron 530 with an intel core(TM)2 Duo CPU and 2GB of ram. Some people say it can run on a toaster but others disagree. My computer is in no way a gaming setup. I just want to know if minecraft would run smoothly without major hiccups. Thanks

No, the game is a graphical monster that even put high end machines through a heck of a workout. Even more so then Crysis, Cryostasis and Metro 2033 combined.. But seriously, yeah it'll run smoothly on your system.

Yeah, the graphics in the game are some of the most detailed I have ever seen... if you look at it from a mile away. :P

But seriously, your computer shouldn't have any problems running minecraft TC.

Don't underestimate minecraft guys, it lags on full settings on my i7 sometimes. I'm not even kidding. But you'll be good, if my ULV i5 can play it, so can you.

Taken from the forums:

CPU: 2.0+ GHz multi-core processor, 2.5+ GHz single-core processor
RAM/Memory: 2.0+ GB for Xp, 3.0+ GB for Vista/Win 7/Mac OS, 4.0+ GB for all 64-bit Operating Systems
Graphic Card: ATI/Nvidia independent card that support OpenGL 2.0 with 128+ MB of dedicated G-RAM
Hard Drive Space: 256+ MB of free space

Yeah, while it isn't a graphical beast or anything, it can still lag quite a bit when loading/generating new areas since it's not heavily optimized. It should be getting better with a new save file format and more performance tweaks coming up.

That being said, it's fairly easy to run on most computers and you can turn down the view distance which can make it run fairly well most of the time on pretty much anything.

It tends to run like crap on integrated GPU's despite the 16x16 textures and overall simplistic graphics. Unless you have a proper dedicated video card (2007 onwards) use "fast" graphics instead of "fancy" and maybe turn off smooth lighting.

I also recommend a healthy amount of RAM... 2GB should be enough.

Have you tried 64 bit Java ? This will only work If you have a 64-bit OS though :P If you're trying to play Minecraft on Intel integrated graphics... Thats probably your limitation...

No, minecraft is programmed in java, therefore its a crappy piece of engineering work, therefore it may run but it will probably run like crap.
