Can someone straighten this out for me...

So, being the one person who has never played half life, I was super pumped to here The Orange Box is almost about to release for pc.

But the other day, my friend told me that you need the original half life or soemthing in order to install the orange box?? can somone clarify what he ment by that?

also, what is new in the orange box and what is old? TF2 and portal i know are new, but what half life episodes or what ever are new?

its a completely standalone set.......Half-life 1 doesn't have any expansions in the orange box
