Topic Question....

So, my computer just got an upgrade from a GeForce 5200 to 9600. I was wondering if my comp could now play games like COD4, Mass Effect, Crysis, the Witcher, and Left 4 Dead on the high graphics setting. Does anybody know? Thanks for commenting. (If people do....)

Depends on other hardware specs like your HDD, CPU, and RAM...but if those are up to date, yes, just about every modern game you should be able to run on "high" settings.

See this is what I don't understand, with the specs in my sig, I can only play Crysis on all medium with water, sound, and shader quality on High (Not Very High)...I don't even have AA or AF on. I get anywhere from 27 at low points to 45 FPS when there is no combat going on. When I set everything to Hight my PC absolutely chugs during combat, all the way down to 12-15 FPS.

I don't know if it's the fact that I am playing at 1680x1050, or that other people are lying about their specs, but seriously it just makes me a little angry.

Yes. It can even handle Crysis at 20fps on high at 1680x1050 when paired with a reasonable CPU and RAM. It's on par with my 8800GTS 640mb. Didn't test my hd4850 in crysis, but I assume it would have pulled mid-high 20's. (4870 pulled low-mid 30's)

It's your CPU that is holdin the HD 4850 back, I had to overclock mine to 3.3ghz to get rid of the large fps dips at random times. Also I advise playing the game at DX9 32bit. I get about a 7-10 fps gain average over DX10/64 bit.

You can play Crysis with all settings on High at 1440x900 and get a stable 30 or above FPS 95% of the time. Sometimes it will come a little lower but it's very very playable. I was surprised it handled the game so nicely at this resolution. Anything above that though and you need to lower your settings.

It also runs UT3 maxed at 60FPS at same resolution and that was all I tested when I got to play with the card.
