I currently have a IDE 180GB HDD in one of my rigs, and it is gettting full. Can I add a new 160GB SATA HDD to the PC? Will it be detected and work fine?

So both will show up under "My Computer", and both be accessible/usable?

I was told that in order to use RAID both HDD's had to be SATA and exactly the same model. These two HDD's are not the same, and only one is SATA while the other is IDE. So I guess RAID is out of the question. All RAID does is make it so that all of the HDD's show up as a single drive right?

Anyways, so yeah, they will be standalone. They will show up under "My Computer" as two seperate, usable, storage devices right?

Yes you will see the 2 hard drives in My Computer under different letters, and you can copy/cut/paste files from one to the other. You will have to format the new hard drive.
