So gentlemen, I know nothing about cars but a bit about audio/video equipment and a lot about building computers: how easy is it to install a new stereo in an old car? Anyone have any specific recommendations as far as methods or stereos. I'm no audiophile, the speakers in my car sound fine, but I want a more versatile stereo, features I'm looking for (in order of importance):

MP3 play back
USB input
iPod dock
AUX input
SD card input
CD drive
AM/FM Radio

I don't care about XM/satellite radio or cassette, and the cd drive would be unecessary if it has those other options. My budget is $100 Canadian and my preferred source is Amazon.ca though I'm open to suggestions. My car is a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker 4 door, the dash stereo unit seems a bit taller then most of the replacements I've seen online, are there standards to these sizes?

Just from my own browsing I found this:http://www.amazon.com/Axxera-XDMA7600-Receiver-Built--Bluetooth/dp/B005HE8I4O/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354569694&sr=1-2&keywords=Axxera+XDMA7600

All cars use universal sizes.

Din 1 or Din 2.

Simply find a receiver within your budget that offers the features you like, personally I wouldn't bother with SD card input or Ipod; simply find AUX, CD and maybe USB. Realistically you won't need an ipod connector if you have aux.

It was quite easy to do in my car but I had to buy an adapter for the new unit to fit (it was smaller than the original)

You may have to do something similar.

Go here and pick the Pioneer DEH-2500UI or Kenwood KDC-152. Both are reputable car audio brands and do everything you want them to do. Further, by ordering through Crutchfield you will get instructions on how to install them in your vehicle as well as a custom dash kit to make sure it fits perfectly. Happy gaming, Boz

It is unfourtante :( what's really frustrating is I live within eyesight of Detroit, why that couple hundred feet matter so much on the internet is a mystery to rational thought.
