would it be ok to setup my pc inside a cardboard box for better cooling?

since it is easier to install fans anywhere.

I remember seeing someone make a "case" with just copper pipe so it was just sitting in the air.  It looked pretty cool but kinda risky.  I wouldnt use cardboard since that seems like a fire hazard to me.

I think it'd be better if you just left the motherboard on top of a non-static surface on top of a table.

actually metal would be way better with the heat than cardboard, learn chemistry/physics. The heat would be insulated inside and would be way worse.

Who was it used to have a cardboard rig thread? Joby?

Well it does work, you just have to be aware of the risks: catching on fire, instability could lead to something shorting out etc.

why not just remove one of the side panels, i know quite a few people already do that.

That copper pipe idea sounds ace! I might try taking my old PC out of its case and giving that a go when I build a new one.

For $10 you could go to SEARS and purchase a 80mm (3 and 1/8inch) Hole Saw Bit.  For $10 you could purchase two 80mm case fans from xoxide.com
For free you could put your computer in a cardboard box and burn down your $200,000 house/apartment.
