To give you an idea of what it needs to be capable of i would say that it least has to be able to run Half-life 2 maybe counter-strike source.

Case

GPU

PSU

RAM

CPU/Mobo Combo

Total: 501.10 USD

There's also a $20 MIR on the PSU and a $20 MIR on the GPU, which would give you some room for a dvd drive if you need one.

any amd 64-bit single core with a nvida 7600 or 8600 and 2 gig of ram. that should do. with everything, assuming u dont have a case and all, should run around 200-400 depending on the extra stuff you buy or if u opt for a dual core

can u be more specific

There's also a $20 MIR on the PSU, which would give you some room for a dvd drive if you need one. You might go over your budget a few dollars, however.

What do you mean by 'more specific'? Btw, I reworked my build for you since I saw what games you're trying to run.

Slightly modified version of the above, I went a bit over-budget. But this is better and contains HDD and DVD Writer. Combo Motherboard + CPU - 152$ Instead of 182$ (The above contains GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard and Phenom II x2 550 BE) G.Skill 2 x 2GB RAM (4GB RAM Kit) - 60$ Corsair 450W PSU - 70$ COOLER MASTER Elite RC-310 - 40$ Western Digital Cavier Black 500GB - 69$ LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA - 29$ XFX HD-485X-ZDFC Radeon HD 4850 1GB - 119$ Total : 539$ (Yeah, I over-did it)

PII 550 is much cheaper and will perform much better than E7400. +1 for the above build.

That's a good rig but here's one that's more within his budget:

CPU: - $ 61 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103688

Motherboard: $60 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135234

RAM: - $52 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

Video Card: - $70 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102842

Hard Drive: - $50 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136074

Case: - $40 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119161

Optical: - $35 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151187

Power supply: - $40 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031

Operating system: - $110 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116677

total $518 - you might be able to save like 20 bucks by going with 2gb of ram instead but the system build that I made for you is balanced and should play anything game that runs on the source engine (hl2, css, etc.). good luck!!

yeah I know but microsoft isn't offering the windows 7 RC anymore as far as I know. the Os is what makes building a computer expensive lol (one for playing games at least).

I never used an *expensive* Microsoft OS and never had any problems. I used a *modified* version of their OS'es and they worked perfectly and I didn't spend *much* money. Hope you get it.

I'd get an AMD Athlon X2 6000+ due to a very low cost and it's still real fast. Also, get an HD 4850 instead of that GPU, it's a great card for the price

You pretty much said that you use an illegal copy of windows. @Max ubuntu seeds on mininova, lol get it from one of the official torrents. It seems that my build is better than most of others here.
