okay I'm trying to build a system here that will run most games but can be upgraded when i get more money. right now I'm looking for a mboard, cpu, video card and ram. i have a hard drive case monitor ect. but plan on upgrading those in the future. i have a budget of $400 to get these items. like i said i can upgrade the processor and video card when i get the money but i wanna play bioshock until then.

heres a list i put together let me know if you'd change anything;

MBoard/CPU (XFX GeForce 680i LT, E2200 Pentium Dual Core) - $169.99: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3827923&CatId=14

RAM - $64.99: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3079597&CatId=2261

Video Card (XFX GeForce 8600 GT XXX) - $99.99: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3048552&Sku=P450-8650

Fan - $14.99: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3486537&sku=C283-3024

i know the processor isnt the best but from what ive heard theres very little difference between the pentium and core duo. i plan on going quad eventually and i think this is a great motherboard especially since its sli. also do u think anymore cooling is needed?

imo, dont bother with any of the nvidia 8000 series or the ati 2000 series. the first run of dx10 cards was messy.

I can upgrade the card in a few months, I'm mostly worried about the processor and if it will be able to handle games like bioshock. I just want med settings that run smooth until I can go crazy with hardware.

i ran bioshock in XP on high setting with an Athlon x2 and a 7600GT, I don't think you will have an issue with the game.

Make sure the 8600GT has GDDR3 memory and not GDDR2.

I would suggest going with a Gigabyte P35 DS3L mobo and a Core 2 Duo 4500 - It will cost you about 250 for the mobo and cpu together but it will last you longer and play a bit better imo :)

EDIT: Just realised you have a goal of SLI in the future....well, 680i will cut it for now.
