The sick part is, I was talking to my system admin and our campus is using 80-100% of the bandwidth all the time. We only have about 1000 people on my campus too. So they went together with a few other colleges and upgraded to 50 mb. Today was the first day of the upgrade. Before our stats were like 9000 dl and 4500 upload.

My download speed is nearly as good as yours (~29800), but that upload speed is ungodly - over five times as fast as my ~2600kb/s.

Pakistan. The only thing i can play online is CS 1.6 and that also on my internet providers server.

You can actually do online gaming if you have the money to.A 512k connection would cost you $250 per month.

Just curious how much you people pay for internet in the west. And do gamers have a better connection than normal or everybody's fine.

My home PC is connected only to DSL and it has about the same stats. I feel so robbed as we are paying almost $30 a month for "high speed" that really is quite slow. MN has a obsolete market (no competition) which keeps prices way too high (over $50 a month for Broadband through cable - Comcast)

Ya. I have SBC as my ISP and it is a DSL. Gets the job done for online gaming but it takes forever to download stuff such as off Steam.

Jesus loving christ, how the hell do you people get download speeds in the 10000+? I'm getting 2410 kb/s in Canada, but in reality I don't download faster than ~290kb/s off sites/bittorrent/etc. :|

With speeds like that, you could, like, download all of the world's porn in under a week

This is how crappy the ISP is in Malaysia:

And I have to pay $20(USD) a month for this sort of nonsense. Well atleast theres no bandwidth limit with the exception of god-awful P2P throthling.

Wow those are some insane speeds. I am happy with what I got. I have no idea what I would do with speeds like that or how disappointed I would be when I had to use a regular cable connection.

Yes the closest test server was 2550 mi away.

I don't download big files much - most of what I'm talking about is game patches and demos, so I'm guessing the speed problem isn't on my end, but rather the place I'm downloading from. When I buy digital music, it takes me around 30-35 seconds to download tracks that average 18MB in size, so that's probably a more accurate estimate of my true download speed.

Wait are you serious. Can you do online gaming. And dude i am not talking about a shared 512k connection.I am also not talking about a volume based connection with a download limit either.I am talking about a standalone 512k connection with no limit.

The only way you can do online gaming with a $20 connection is if you get a download limit account which will be full within hours of gaming.Plz let me know what you are saying.I am very curious to know what you have to say.I live in karachi.

Just curious how much you people pay for internet in the west. And do gamers have a better connection than normal or everybody's fine.

I would think twice before giving out wrong information. I live in Pakistan, Islamabad. A 512k conenction costs 1200rs, which is 20$ per month. So get the facts straight please.

Wait are you serious. Can you do online gaming. And dude i am not talking about a shared 512k connection.I am also not talking about a volume based connection with a download limit either.I am talking about a standalone 512k connection with no limit.

The only way you can do online gaming with a $20 connection is if you get a download limit account which will be full within hours of gaming.Plz let me know what you are saying.I am very curious to know what you have to say.I live in karachi.

i'm talking about volume based connection.

On a 512K connection, you'll only be able to play online with less than 100 ping on servers located in pakistan. Anything abroad will lag too much.

And volume based connection is perfect for online gaming, because an hour of online gaming only uses about 8-9MB of bandwidth, i know because i play COD2 online.
