choosing 1 GTA game

Hello all,

unfortunately I live in a country where the GTA series is banned and, so far, I'd only play the original GTA and GTA II which have been released as freeware on the internet. Anyway, right now I am on holiday abroad and I saw all the games since GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas in computers and video game shops and I decided to get one but I am not really sure which one to choose: I'm interested not only in having fun but also in analysing the open-ended game play and design architecture.

Which one, in your opinion, provides the most representative/interesting/complete and revolutionary gaming experience among all the titles in the series (I aa referring to the PC version of these titles)?

I put over 50 hours into GTA Vice City. I still load up that game from time to time. I love the 80's theme and I wish they'd go back to that at some point. I never really got into San Andreas because I didn't like the gangsta theme, although there is a heck of a lot more to do in that game.transCendenZ

 But since you(OP) want to "analyze the open-ended game play and design architecture" then San Andreas propably is the right choise, it's has the biggest map of the all and most vehicles and everything, shortly put, most freedom.

san andreas is the most refined, most polished, most fully featured game of the series - simply following the natural sequel progression, bigger, better

but, like many others, i too far prefer vice city - the time setting, music, vehicles, city itself, characters and story are all far more appealing to me

san andreas has a bigger and more believable world, there's far more to do and see and the mission structure is far more diverse and unique, but if you (and i'm picking my words carefully here) are not fond of particular nuances of certain popular culture, you will perhaps find many elements of san andreas not to your liking

take it for what it is, though, and it's a damn fine game - but if you just can't, vice city all the way
