I know its been said before but man...I had no idea. Just got the game and Ive put in 18 hours already and thats huge for me to do by myself so quickly. Only other game I did that with is SC2 and maybe DoW2 and CoH and...TF2. lol But this SC2, and TF2 are by far the top. Brilliant. RPGs get that many ours too but games that are replayable getting that many is awesome...really speaks of how long it'll last.

I was done with it in a week. It's a great game, don't get me wrong, but it's just not quite what I was hoping for. It doesn't have the staying power.

Agreed. It was like one of those great games that were fun and had great reviews. But after a couple of weeks "poof" it was forgotten. Like GTA4 and Red Dead.

I wanted to enjoy this game...but the long ass turn load times near end game and the crashes i experienced mid game just killed it for me.I've been thinking about playing mp since i figure the reasons i didnt enjoy sp will be gone but i also heard the animations are turned off...which is a no go for me.Tc you play mp?

I actually really enjoy it too, I miss some things from Civ4 but overall I like it. .

But then again I do actually play on strange settings :) I customize a lot of it and make it as random/unfair as possible to people. It makes for interesting gameplay to say the least lol, and often I dont really last more than 20 hours in the game due to various factors I got unlucky. However I won my first culural victory yesterday :) I was very happy.

It's definitely a good game. Still have yet to get sick of it myself but I do agree that there are things from Civ IV that i really miss, and hope that they re-integrate into some future expansions(we all know thats coming lets face it).

Yup, sooo addicting , better in nearly every way from Civ4. Civ2, Civ3 and Civ5 are the best in the series imo, with Civ4 being my least fav.

Civ5 and Elemental really have been two very addicting strategy games this year that ive enjoyed :D

Anyways, bext Civ game since Civ3!

It's awesome and I would argue the deepest Civ yet. It may SEEM simplified due to the fantastic streamlining, but this is the first entry in the series in which every single feature is well-developed and really means something (apart from diplomacy which could still use some work).

I have no idea if the theafiguy is one of the Civ players who have been playing since Civ 1 but Civ 5 according to a lot of people just feels dumbed down for the newcomers. Imo it does feels easier. I can beat Civ 5 on Deity really easy now Civ 4 took me forever to reach deity. The Ai is terrible and diplomacy is useless. I'm not saying its a bad game but 2k knows this and are fixing it. It's great more people can pick it up but my god did it suffer.

The word is addictive. Anyway, it's not surprising given the reputation of the previous games to cut through hours like butter.

I liked it but after doing scientific, diplomatic, and military victories, I didn't feel like playing anymore. It didn't have anything to pull me back.

Well, as long as I get at least 40 hours out of it Ill be fine. Wanna do each leader maybe and each type of victory and then we'll see. Will probably continue when expansions come...which they will...lol.

What the heck is up with you people? I'm on turn 500 and I'm still not in the renaissance. Am I the only person in the world who does marathon sessions?

It lacks depth and makes me miss some features of Civ. IV. Yet I hope it'll be better when expansions come along. Still a good game with nice graphics..

I already uninstalled it and wnt back to civ IV BTS which has a lot more to offer. I just can't believe Sid dumbed down gameplay. Don't get me wrong, a lot of elements have potential but if you compare IV and V with eachother it's pretty clear IV offers a lot more micromanagement and wonder/unit/improvement combinations. And therefor has a lot more gameplay into it. I also like to play competition games on hof.civfanatics.net which is still only available for civ III and IV.

Civ 5 is definetly addicting...but only if you keep playing it. Once i put the game down i couldnt get myself to play it again.

Religion is the only feature that's missing. It didn't really add anything depth-wise, but it was a pretty interesting feature and I'd love to see it come back in an expansion pack. However, I hope it's implemented differently than it was in Civ IV.

Ya I can see that being a big thing. I dont know. Id like to see new stuff too. But we all know it'll probably be in the next expansion.

Yeah - honestly, Religion was cool to have in a bullet point sort of way, but its Civ4 implementation was just so broken. One 'feature' of sorts that I honestly did miss was the slightly more unique AI-personalities that the different civs/leaders carried - ie if you meet Isabella, that woman WILL declare war on you. :D I didn't get that same 'warlike' feel out of the individual civs on 5, but I still love the game.

Well you have to take into account that vanilla Civ 5>>>>>>>> vanilla Civ 4. Just wait for some expansions. Also, the Civ series is as dumbed down(although not really because it hasn't necessarily gotten simpler, it's just that other games have come out that are far more complex) as it can get when it comes to grand strategy-ish games, so I don't see the need to complain about it being "dumbed down".
