Is this safe?

I was worried it might be too powerful and suck up various components & wires. :|

Also, would it cause a build up of static, or anything like that?

Vacuums are not safe to use around a PC, well normal household vacuums. They will cause static electricity and discharge. You have to buy specific electronic vacuums to use.

I wouldn't recommend it - all hoovers build up static, at least enough to give a shock.

You might be alright if you don't touch anything with the nozzle, but I wouldn't do it myself, and I wouldn't call ut safe.  Best off getting a can of compressed air, maybe.

scientifically it can cause static electricity in your PC case by air particles building up charge as they get blown away. simply dont do it.

A compressed air can is $2.99USD - $11.99USD, get the more expensive versions because I got a cheap one and it leaves water on the can cause its old. Air cans have enough air to clean a few computers.

I bought some the other day and was shocked that a can of compressed air now goes for $8. That is beyond a rip off, where's government regulation when you need it! :P

Oh wait they do regulate it, you have to honestly answer what your try intent is for the purchase of compressed air is or you can't leave the store with it.

Seriously though, most of the time they shoot water is if you hold it in any postition other then upright which is a little tricky when you are trying to dust out a PC.

You need to show ID in Illinois. I'm over 18 so no problem there but it sucks for the younger computer geeks.

I know these cans of compressed air, used to use them a lot a while ago, but not anymore, to expensive... Nothing a good grounded vacuum cleaner can't handle though...

In NY at least where I live I've now been asked for ID for compressed air, spray paint and now epoxy glue. I found the spray paint one humorous because it was the orange marker stuff that sprays upside down and thinking of someone getting blasted in the face with orange paint while doing 'illegal activities' cracked me up.

that is not water it is shooting out its liquid tetraflouroethane holding the can upside-down or at a steep angle does not allow for the liquid to immediately vaporize, causing it to be released as a freezing spray
