Very good game and even better with Zero hours pack. It's also great for skirmish although I would say other RTS's crush it in the single player campaign stories.
I think the AI is also better than some of the 'classic' RTS games but then of course it should be considering it is much newer.
For me i think it can't be at the top because there are no real naval units. Red Alert 2 had more sophisticated strategies because the naval units really did come into play. I missed that a lot when I got C&C generals.
Still I find myself playing C&C Generals A LOT! It's got the cool explosions and I love the way you can fill a humvee with five soliders of different types. Then of course put several of those in a transport helicopter.Â
It's a very, very good game. If only it had navel units. I'd also add that I'm not a huge fan of the air force compared to other RTS games. C&C generals strength is on the ground units and it's very nice graphically as well.
