Compressing Fraps' videos.

So, I wanted to upload around half a dozen gameplay vids on youtube but they each of them is about 3 GB.

I tried this:

Used XVid codec in VirtualDub and compressed a file from 3 GB to about 400 MB.

Its still too large, could anyone propose another way by which I can compress these videos to around 100 MB? Quality is not a concern, 360p or 240p on youtube is fine by me.

Also, apologies if this topic doesn't belong here, with people asking advice on relationships and religion at Off-topic, I thought video compression would be too insignificant a topic for them. :)

You should be able to take the video into just about any video editing program, even an easy free one like Windows Movie Maker.

Just import it, edit if you'd like, and then export it/save it as a web video.

MeGUI video encoder.

It's a little tricky to set up, but its superior to all other encoders I've tried previously. You can set the desired file size yourself if you wish.

Auto Gordian Knot is also decent.

I'm pretty sure youtube has a 2GB limit on uploads. 400MB is perfectly fine.

Yep, the upload limit on Youtube videos is 2GB. You'll be fine uploading those videos.

For gameplay videos, I've had great success with Super for compressing videos. For videos I'm piecing together from Fraps, I use Vegas Movie Studio HD 9 and convert the videos to AVCHD, which seems to create manageable file sizes without compromising too much on quality.

If you have Windows 7 you can download Windows Live Movie Maker for free and it does a fantastic job. It will take movies that are 2 or 3 gig and make them about 300 meg or so. I just uploaded one today that is of an FSX flight and it is 3 minutes and 15 seconds long and only 220 meg. And it is also in 1080 resolution.

You need to render it/endcode, fraps records in raw viedo.

Use a program like any video converter (just anything that let's you convert videos) and try the following settings.

Resolution: 640x360
Video bitrate: 450kbps
Video coded: x264 or xvid
Audio bitrare: 128kbps

See if that helps.
