Hey

For the last couple of days my computer has began freezing for approximately 2 seconds every 30 seconds or so. At first I thought it could be a virus or spyware. As i am very security conscious with my computer, have both virus and anti-spyware real time protection and am careful with what sites I go on, i found this to be abit odd. However after many virus/spyware scans (With ad-aware, Avast, AVG, Super-anti-spyware and Spyware terminator) I found not a trace of anything.

I then defragged my HDD (which I do on a frequent basis anyway) which failed to resolve the problem. Ive also completely cleaned my computer with Ccleaner and Advanced windows care V2 and still nothing.

I then ran my task manager and this has shown in the performance tab that my CPU usage hangs around 4% with nothing open and then every 30 seconds flies up to 93% it is during this time that my computer becomes unresponsive for 2-3 seconds and then goes back to normal again.

Do any of you know what my problem could be?

PS. I also pay close attention to my start-up files and all of the ones in there i recognise and are important (such as anti-virus and firewall etc)

Its not getting too hot or anything is it? I'd check your fans and stuff first, and make sure its not a physical problem.

Use CCleaner in Safe mode and clean boot your computer. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

No it isn't getting too hot, i would know if it was too hot because my fans would be spinning really loudly, i have the side panel of my case removed and its completely in the open so there is also plenty of ventilation.

One of my HDD started failing last year showing almost the same problem as yours, it started with a few freezes here and there then things got more and more frequent until it failed completely, that hdd had windows, so I wanted to recover a few files from that hdd, Even connected as a slave and with a new hdd with a fresh windows install, my pc was freezing whenever that bad hdd was connected to my pc, don't know if thats what happening to you but sure sounds like it, same freezes and cpu spikes.

^ Ya that sounds possible. You should find out the make of your hard drive and download the diagnostic software from their website and run a full scan of your hard disk with that software and see if its failing.

Ctrl-alt-delete and spot the process that uses your cpu every 30 seconds, then google that process.

Edit: Start/Run/ then type "msconfig" then disable that process
