As I'm in college I'm trying to find short cuts to save money. The cable box in my place has DVI, Component, and I believe HDMI. Is it possible to use a monitor I'm buying to double as a TV? Anyone with any experience with doing this?

yes it is possible, but audio can become an issue. make sure you have a composite/component to phono cable. thats what i did after i got rid of my old TV & ordered a new flatscreen. i used it for 2 weeks until i got my TV from the UPS man. I dont reccomend it for long term use though. its a temporary thing.

Yeah I was thinking for doing it about 8 months but it doesn't sound like a good idea. I just keep it as a computer monitor, thank you for the help!

yes but most don't have speakers and no tv tuner but if you have a hd set top box and speakers it will work fine.

I don't know what everyone here is talking about but all you need is a tuner card. There is no risk and the audio will come out of your computer speakers. The best part is the ability to use your computer as a DVR, getting show guides and everything else online. Don't buy a cheap card and look at the reviews before you buy. Check this out...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000380047+1685342847&Tpk=tuner%20card

The only danger you have is the card overheating so have good air flow in your case and make sure you have enough hard drive space to use the DVR feature... at least 500Gb.

Oh, make sure your video card has dual output so you can clone or extend your desktop. If you have a laptop this will not be a problem but you will have to get an external HDTV tuner.
