I'm planning on spending around $1000 on this computer and was wondering if someone could tell me if I need some adjustments.

This is what I've got so far.

Motherboard - Intel P45

Video Card - HD4870

PSU - Corsair 650w (is this a waste of money? I've heard that I didn't need 650 watts)

Memory - 4gb PC8500

CPU - E8500

Case? ( how do I know if the case is compatible) and any recommendations?

CD/DVD - any recommendations?

Thanks.

It's never a waste of money to buy a higher watt PSU. I thought I could get by with the stupid one that came with my case and boy was I wrong.

For CD/DVD, at the very least a dvd rw.

Other than that, decent setup.

650 watts is good, just make sure you do your research and get the best deal for your money in terms of amperage

Second that, the psu is never a waste of money and you never know what you'll add to the pc later on.

CD/DVDRW drive... Samsung, LG, Sony. OEM as always.

Case... mid and full tower ATX should do you good. Antec 900, 1200, P18X maybe? I'd recommend a Lian Li case also but they're pretty expensive for a $1000 budget.
