I have a e6300 @ 1.86 GHz, ati 3870, DG965WH mb, 3 GB 667MHz RAM. Is my processor bottle necking my graphics card? I am wondering if overclocking would be beneficial and how much? Would I need a something other than stock cooling that came with it? Is it safe?

It is possible that your CPU speed is bottlenecking your video card. Overclocking could be beneficial and should you take that route, you would need to get a decent cooler. I am not really an expert on overclocking, so i dont know how much that CPU iwll overclock.

I believe your CPU is sufficient and is certainly not bottle necking your processor. In terms of performance, Overclocking your CPU will only give you a few frames. In terms of overclocking, if you want to the point is to push it as far as possible with the computer stable (Not crashing) and safe temperatures. Safe temperatures for a CPU are generally under 60 C. If you can't get under those temps, then you could by an aftermarket cooler.
