Hey guys I am deciding between the e8500 and q6600, the e8500 is at face value better but will the q6600 OC sufficiently compensate for this? thanks for teh help

Phenom definitely. While AMD processors do not score as high as their Intel counterparts, the difference is neglible and they are much cheaper. Buying at newegg.com saves you a bunch of money also.

yah and don't forget to do the combo deals on newegg, most people prob don't know about them but after you view a product it lists 1 combo deal...but if you click "view all" and look you can save some money that way

Out of the 2 you listed I would go for Q6600, yea it won't OC as far but it's still gonna be plenty fast enough and anything that can use the extra cores will see a good benefit.

In Majority of game it won't compensate As much would do e8500 is still to go or Q9650 (320$US)
How Ever Il show more benchmark trying to figure out by how much fps Q6600 3.4ghz would fall behind E8500 Overclock at same % 3.8/4.0ghz
