Here is a topic to debate: should GameSpot members add cracked games which they 'own' to their GameSpot game collection or only games which they have either the disc for or have purchsed the download online?  Let me know what you think!

And if you are brave enough, why not let the world know how many cracks you have currently on your PC! (I hope GameSpot won't file a report on you!)

Keep it real... say no to cracks! (and I don't mean pull up your jeans!)

In theory people should keep it legit however there is no way of knowing what people truely bought unless you want a checkbox saying yup i pirated this game and it's on my collection which only an idiot would check off

Of course you shouldn't put in games you've simply downloaded since you don't actually own them, but have stolen them.

Thats just plain Stupid. If you "own" a cracked game then you Shouldnt post it to your Collection.

All the games i have in my Collection is bought with CD/DvD and all.....i do own some cracked games yes but since i Realy dont own them i dont post them as In my collection. It wouldnt be a collection with just the Files would it? ;)

I agree fully! I think games would become cheaper if more people bought them and less people cracked them!

I have a few cracked games in my collection.  From a moral standpoint I know it's wrong but in a sense I do "have" the game.  I think of My Collection in terms of the games I have on my pc or on disc not whether I actually bought the game or not.  There will always be people with different viewpoints on the subject.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's right or legal, I just don't see it in exactly the same way you do.

Yeah, right. Look at consoles, those games sell like hot cakes, still the price is high. That's because they are hard to copy (or more of a hassle). Piracy is keeping prices for PC-games down.

You need to consider the following.  If you buy a game install it and then download a NoCD Crack for the game because you don't feel like changing CDs the whole time between your games, technically that game is cracked.  If all cracks are illegal then surley that game you bought just went from being legal to illegal whether you bought it or not since it is a cracked game and therefore, it can't be in your collection.

Who cares? The collection feature is made so you have a place to keep track of all your games and not everyone else's. So if you feel that your 500 games (all cracked, pirated, downloaded, copied etc.) should be in your collection then I say go ahead, unless you are trying to please someone else for some strange reason.

Unless you burn the pirated game to a CD/DVD I think it's kind of pointless to add it to your so called "collection" because you will remove it from the harddrive eventually and then it won't be in your collection anymore. Physical copies, however, will always be in your collection. Unless you give the copy to somebody else. Pirated games on your harddrive come and go but physical copies will stay with you for a much longer period, if not for the rest of your life.

On the other hand, if you are in posession of the game, legit or not, then you can technically add it to your collection because you do own the game.

By the way, when the topic starter talks about "cracks", he's obviously talking about pirated games. And not legitimate games that have a crack applied to them.

Not one pirated game on my rig, no need for it, if I want to play a game I pay for it, it's cheap, and everyone should be supporting the company's that make games for us that we want to play.

People shouldn't add cracked or pirated games to their GS collection.

I'll admit I have downloaded a few games in my day. However, I did it because I either couldn't purchase them as they were really old (we are talking about old DOS games here kiddies) or they shipped with some nasty copy protection software on them such as Starforce. If a publisher wants my money then they can't use sh*t like that. However, I don't back up anything I download out of principle, and I format my machine at least every six months to keep it fresh, so needless to say I don't have any of them any more. I didn't put them in my collection because I never owned them, and I don't think other people should put cracked downloaded games in their collection either because they don't own them. Also, I find that the games I buy at the store have a much more lasting appeal than anything I download. Every game I have ever downloaded has been throwaway, as in "oh it was a fun two hours, but it's time to move on."  *pushes shift+delete

Even though I really disagree with the pirate mentality, if the game is part of your collection, regardless of how it's obtained, it's still part of your collection.

Agreed. And how would GS, or any other website for that matter, know whether a game in your collection is cracked or not? And why would they care (besides reporting you or banning you)?

Plus, some of the games in my collection are merely games I've played, not games I physically own, either because someone lent me their game, or some games I have rented (for console games). As stated before, what happens to downloadable games (e.g. from Steam)?

It may be cheap for you but for some people in other countries games can be pretty expensive.  You pay maybe what for a game, $50 maybe a bit more maybe a bit less.  In my country pc games normally range between N$150 - N$300 which is a hectic price to fork out every time you want to "play" a game.  Especially if you end up not liking the game.

Too bad. Still doesn't justify stealing. I want to drive a porche really bad too, doesn't mean I'm gonna head over to the dealership and steal the car for few hours.....

If I could download a Porsche with only a 1 in a million chance of anyone trying to prosecute me over it I would steal one in a second!! LOL

Bassed on majority of comments posted here, I get the idea that the GameSpot Game Collection feature should reflect those games which you phyically own legally, either via dick purchase or download purchase. As always this proves just how different we all are... some this way and some the other... we will never please everyone! I hope this post however makes you think about your game collection and what is really Your collection.

Keep posting... very interesting views posted here!
