Hi. Iv been having major problems with freezing recently and i need help fixing it. il get you up to date so far:

a long time ago i bought a acer veriton m464 and bought agts 250 graphics card for itand a 650w psu. I then was suffering problems with it crashing. i finally put the problem down to the psu and bought a new 750w psu and it has been working great ever since. about a day ago i bought a 5.1 surround sound system and my pc keeps freezing after about 5 minutes in windows. It does not freeze in safe mode and i have completely wiped and reinstalled everything on my pc and im still having the problem. my pc averages about 35degrees centigrade so is not everheating and im assuming its not the drivers either as i have reinstalled everything. i have ordered a wireless network card which should be here soon so when that gets here i will update all of my drivers and see if that effects anything.

is there anything you can think of that i can do?

i really want to play all my games, including crysis which is what i built this pc for.

please please help asap!!!

if you want any more info please do ask.

thanks. Barquest100

If adding the card causes the problem, I see the following options:

1) Update sound card drivers (I guess you have done that?)

2) Update BIOS

3) Card is defect. Return it for replacement (or google if others have the same problem with a similar setup.

Good luck :)

Ohh - forgot:

The crash (I assume BSOD) is actually trying to tell you what is wrong. It normally produces a STOP code and, depending on the STOP code, the name of the culpit program/driver. Take a note of what is on the BSOD and google it.

If the machine repotes to fast for you to write it down, either disable automatic reboot after crash or loog in the event viewer.

i have 2 questions. 1: when my pc freezes nothing comes up at all. it just stops everything its doing and the screen becomes a still image even though the pc is still whirring away so how can i see what the stop code is? 2: what card are you talking about? graphics card? sound card? the surround sound? and my pc says it supports 7.1 surround sound so i didnt get a new sound card? do you think this could be the problem?

1) Frozen is unfortunately not a BSOD. So no error codes.

2) Sorry - thought that you bought a new sound card. I was obviously wrong about that. If your on-board sound supports 7.1 it should work without buying a new card. Of course a new sound card will give a superior sound quality - especially if your 5.1 speakers are quality speakers.

Does the error happen when your speakers are turned off or only when you have sound?

Clean out the dust. I cleaned the dust out of my cpu the other day cause it kept shutting down and now it works like a charm.

You really shouldn't create two threads on the same topic.

A guess: if unhooking the speakers removes the problem, it may be the speakers that are faulty. Speakers should draw very little power from the PSU, so I doubt it is the PSU.

The connection between speakers and PC could also have al loose connection. Try replacing your speakers (return them or borrow another set of 5.1. from a friend to test)

As I suggested, see if you can borrow some other 5.1 speakers from a friend. If they don't crash your system, then the speakers are the problem.

OK now, try some normal speakers or headphones and see what happens. If it's still crashing, try memtest. Sometimes it can be the RAM fault of these crashes. It happened to me too but not with speakers or any other device. Run memtest for each ram stick, and maybe you can find a faulty ram. I'm not saying that RAM is faulty, it could be other things, but I just wanted to help lol :P !

Hmm, is it crashing during gaming, or just surfing? Because sometimes high temperatures can freeze your computer. If it is crashing during gaming, then your GPU is getting hot thus' crashing your system. Can you tell the memtest result?

Yes, its a free open source program. You have to download the ISO bootable version. You have to burn it to a CD, then boot with it.

EDIT: I just found out that they are 2 different memory test softwares, memtest86 and memtest86+. I've use the + version, and read that it is more compaptible. Get it herehttp://www.memtest.org/

inset operating system set bios to boot of cd/dvd rom first.. let it run at the correct time (on xp anyway) hit r to enter the recovery console.. at the prompt type: chkdsk /r and let it run it will finish and prompt a restart do so manually or automatically and then it should right itself.

Why didn't memtest worked? Try and ISO burner like alchohol or any other image burner software. You could use a Ubuntu installation disk, it has memtest software.
