I just got a new PCI express sound blaster X-Fi Xtreme audio, and the cd drivers do not work on vista. I get perfect 5.1 sound when i let windows detect, and install, but the moment I load the cd driver to get all the enhanced features, i get no sound out of my speakers. when i turn them all the way up, i can hear faint fuzzy noises. i hooked up my front panel to it and that works fine. This is really annoying because i got this card because my onboard rear speakers were not working. This is just getting rediculous, vista has been out for almost a year and there are still driver problems, what the hell. I have uninstalled and reinstalled like 5 times already which did not help. I have gone into control panel tried to configure the speakers from there, nothing. Also messed around with the setting on the creative dash, nothing. please help me.

my PC Specs: Vista Ultimate 32, 2gb ram, 500gb SATA HDD, AMD 6400+, 8800GTS 512mb,

I might be stating the obvious here, but you did install the Vista drivers right?

Otherwise, go to creative's website, and try downloading and installing the latest drivers. Creative did have some problems early on with Vista, but most problems have been ironed out by now.

yeah i let the cd auto run, and im assuming that it installed the vista drivers. i went on their website and tried to download the latest driver, but when i try to install it it says that the right sound card wasn't detected. im positive that my card is a Creative PCI express sound blaster X-Fi Xtreme audio. maybe i should try disconect the front panel audio from the card, install it then reconnect them, or maybe im just getting desparate. I have the worst luck when it comes to computer stuff working right the first time.

I'm not sure if there is a difference between the X-fi extreme gamer and the one that you have but the gamer one works just fine for me. I have 5.1 surround sound speaker as well and they all work.

I'd check the CD then (although I'm assuming that they'd say something about you need the Vista disk), becuase when I bought my Xtreme Gamer, it came with a seperate Vista and XP disks.

no im talking about the pci express 1X, the smallest pci slot. they only make one type of this card, and its called Xtreme audio. I hear that pci e 1x could work in a regular PCI slot but i don't think that is the issue, i think that it is driver related.

Hmm, try uninstalling the drivers completely and ignoring the CD, and downloading and installing this driver then.

Linky

Once it's installed and working you should be able to install the missing Creative Apps using the CD.

That's the 32bit Vista I gave, you'll need a different driver if you have Vista x64.

anyone have front panel audio hooked up to their card, i think this might be whay is causing the poblem, either that or the software thinks my speakers are headphones, because it always seems to revert back to that even though i set default as 5.1 surround. i might try a clean remove of the card, re sit it without front panel audio, and go from there.

Front panel? Do you mean the orange black and green plugs that you plug into the back of the card. If so then I have no problems at all with mine but if this isn't so then I have no idea.

The drivers refused to install again, it said "device for setup not properly installed, exit setup". This is weird becasue windows detected everything again, and i was able to listen to music through my front panel headphones, but not the speakers.

Front panel are the extra outputs/ inputs in the front of ur computer, so u don't have to reach to the back everytime u want to unplug ur mic or headphones.

i have finally fixed my problem, i just disconnected the front panel audio from the sound card, removed the sound card, resitted it in the same pci express slot, plugged in my speakers, turned on my computer, let windows detect, then installed drivers and software from cd. restarted now everything works, clean clear sound from all 5 speakers and sub. only one problem, no front panel audio. i might try and hook up the front panel audio later and see if it works. i can't wait to play crysis again with full surround sound, i just beat it on hard now im starting again on delta, finally i can hear if those bastards are infront of behind me.

Ok that is what front panel is ok. I'm kind of new or should I say not new but I forget what is what so some times I need a reminder.

I know how you feel. When things just don't want to work it is a royal pain but when they do work it is wonderful.

With my extreme gamer sound card it is wonderful. If I had to get another I would. Scence I bought it at the store it cost around 100.00 just a little bet more but If I had bought it online it would of been cheaper.

This sound card does just what yours does and I can hear every little detail through the speakers that I have.

I mainly play RTS games so the sound realy is nice and so clear. I'm glad that you finaly got sound to come from your speakers also if you wanted head phones couldn't you hook it up to your pc but I guess if you wanted a mic then you would have to hook it up to the fronts.
