I have a black 19''Iyama Vision Master Pro 455. (1600x1200)

I often experience headache when being excesively long behind my pc. I just read somewere about CRT monitors that they emit dangerous radiation. LCD is also better for the eyes I heard is that correct?

Here a list of all availlable LCD's... wich one do you recommend me? I like High resolutions, but not at the cost of perfomance.

Should I aim for 20'' and 1680x1050?

Here is a list... I was thinking about going for the iiyama. Is iiyama still the best like in the old days? Samsung? Eizo and LG seems pretty good to me also. What do you guys recommend for me?

http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/productListing4C.html?cat1=58&cat2=66&cat3=0&tgid=130&treeName=HARDWARE&Level1=Monitoren&Level2=LCD&Level3=20+inch&

Thanks in advance!

My system specs are a Quad Core 6600, 2GB ram and 8600GT. Graphics card is gonna be replaced by a 8800 GTX when price cut comes along in EU regions.

I have an LG flatron 20" and love it.. the images are crisp and contrast ratios are pretty decent. If you're running a good video card, i'll bring out clarity that much more. plus 2ms response time! I'd say go with LG.

Yes ms response time is for me the most important thing... I don't want to experience ghosting or motion blur when playing fast games on it.

you can't go wrong.. take a look for yourself at a nearby store before you buy online. The contrast ratio's in these smaller monitors (20in) are pretty impressive considering size.

22'' at 1680x1050 wouldreduce theimage qualitydue to theinreased size. So I'd say 20'' is about right.

If you have two monitors made by the same manufacturer and from the same series, the 22" that is natively 1680x1050 isn't going to look worse than the 20" that is natively 1680x1050. I've traded up from a 17" LCD to a 19" LCD before (both 1280x1024, same brand, same series) - there was no reduction in image quality.

In some cases though, the smaller monitor might have a faster response time.

I prefer 20'' over 22'' for the fact that I don't want to move with my head but with my eyes. Bigger screen might affect my perfomance in FPS games... at least I imagine so.

Headaches are often caused by a refresh rate set too low...like below 75Hz. If you increased yours, it might solve your problem. And, yes. A cathode ray tube is basically an electron gun.

Well theradiation thing I read seemed pretty terrifying to me :P

Oh and myhz is set at 85 at 1280x1024... and 75hz at 1600x1200. This headache doesn't occur always... just happens sometimes. It might be the high contrast it has I don't know.

Not quite. It is actually higher resolution which will affect performance. Not screen size. Most 20" and 22" monitors are capped in at 1680x1050. So you naturally don't get any difference in performance at all. Just that in a 22", the pixel dots are bigger, thus words are easier to read, images looks crisper and so on.

I don't however, recommend you go for the Samsung 206BW. At 250 euros, you can go for a BenQ FP92VW which unffortunately I couldn't find at that site you are buying from(I assume). Its a 19" widescreen, and boast only 1440x900 native resolution. However, a 20" monitor's pixel pitch isn't big enough to show the glory of 1680x1050. In which case you wouldn't see much of a difference in between 1440x900 at all, besides you get a pretty big performance boost playing on the latter res as well.

My current 19'' has 1600x1200... I can definetly see a difference between 1280x1024 and thatresolution. So I think 20'' is pretty good for me. And higher inch will make the response time slower.

Btw I meant my perfomance as in how I play competetively. I can see in 1 eye sight when someone is on the screen. On a 24'' that would be a bit slower since I have check right and left all the time :P

And yes unfortunetely the BenQ isn't supported by Alternate :|

And I assume I can put my monitors res to 1440x900 any time I want. Untill now I havent found a better bang for buck then the Samsung. Andmy favourite iiyama doesn't seem so ''favourite'' anymore.

That's one of the only problems with LCDs, if you don't run them at their native resolution (usually the max resolution the monitor supports) the image will become all fuzzy and degraded. I use a 19 inch lcd myself that runs at 1440x900 and if I try using a lower res like 1280x800 everything just looks unclear and fuzzy.

MmhI have never heard ofsomething like thisbefore...

Btw there is a 19'' version of the Samsung with 1440x900 resolution. Maybe I should get that? If thats the best picture quality for that size screen then I maybe the 1650x1050 isn't worth it.

''LCD monitors can technically support lower resolutions than their native resolution, but the image might be small, centered on the screen, and edged with black; or the image will look stretched.''

Quoted from microsoft.com... well if this is true then I will go for a slightly smaller screen.

How about this one? http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/details.html?articleId=-1060187&showTechData=true

19'' 1440x900 2ms response time. 230,- euros.

Generally Samsungs are great. I have several and love them (no widescreen yet). My friend has an older 19" Samsung widescreen and loves it. However over the past year or so a lot of people have been reporting problems. The vast majority of these are related to "A" and "C" panels - at least in the US. If you're determined to get a Samsung, you want to try and make sure it is an "S" panel.

As I've read it, only the "S" panels are actually made by Samsung. The others were manufactured by other companies. I plan on picking up a 226BW as soon as possible, but I'll probably buy from a local b&m so I can see if it's an "S" before I part with my money.

LOL still deciding? Besides the fact that I was brain-dead with AGP 8x and overlooking it to buy a card that was PCI. I do know image quality, and getting what you pay for. I'm telling you man, as i'm looking at my screen now (LG Flatron 20.1). Crisp. Contrast is crazy for the size.. and it's been worth EVERY dollar!

I don't know how you feel about refurbished.. but here's a great deal http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=L204WT-SF-R if you're looking to get one within a budget. (sorry it's rated with a 5ms time) I play UT2004, DOOM, and other games from time to time and have not found an issue with the response times. Now i needthatnew video card so i can take full advantage of the crisp visuals!

Go 22" widescreen. If you want a big monitor get a 24". Its amazing what 2" can do.

Me too! and I need to use my laptop with 60 ( or was it 65? ) as the highest refresh rate like 95% of the time.
Probably why I get headache like every day.

I just ordered an Acer 19" widescreen for $150 shipped (taxes and everything) from Staples.com. The brilliant thing being I got 1-day business shipping *free*, and if I don't like the monitor, I can return it to any Staples store within 14-days, or call them and they'll come pick it up.

It is amazing the difference in how retailers treat you on different components - with traditional brick-and-mortar stores still beating out my online favorites when it comes to monitor return policies. Newegg is great on everything else, don't get me wrong, but I consider a single stuck pixel to be unacceptable, I shouldn't have to have eight before I can RMA.

I usually order my stuff from alternate.nl. But the warranty policy for pixels suck ordering trough internet.

I got 36 monthswarranty from my local store.Thats 3 years!

22" LCDs are actually worst quality LCDs you can get. I dont know if any 22" LCD atm use anything else then TN panel. I found it weird how 22" LCDs are cheaper then some 20" LCDs like Dell 2007WFP or NEC 20WGX2 Pro.. Dont you?

Well from what I see on the specs the Dell 22" is older than the new 20" and the new line of moniters use "UltraSharp" tech... Its pretty much HD moniter (UltraSharp) vs. regular LCD I think... I could be wrong though

Its not about specs. Specs on paper are marketing trick and fools like you belive them. Like NEC 20WGX2 Pro has contrast ratio much lower then 226BW has in dynamic mode, but it still produces way better colors and way better viewing angles. Its about panel. Dont look specs. Look panel these days. TN panel is the worst, VA and IPS are the best panels you can get and can be found in many editions. If you want good colors and viewing angles dont even look at TN panels. They cant produce more then 256,000 colors, but they reach that 16m whit some tricks which arent real colors. Look for VA or IPS panels (S-IPS, P-MVA, S-PVA....) if you want good colors and good vewing angles. Of course they are more expenisve but for me its worth it. It might isnt for you though...

Thanks for the enlightenment I didn't know about TN panels and such I'll keep in it mind when I decide to get a 30" :D

Edit - Found a site if you want to do a bit of research on moniters I haven't finish reading yet but the info looks pretty good...

Thanks for the enlightenment I didn't know about TN panels and such I'll keep in it mind when I decide to get a 30" :D

Edit - Found a site if you want to do a bit of research on moniters I haven't finish reading yet but the info looks pretty good...

I havent see any 30" LCD so far that would use TN panel. The big problem would probably be blacklight bleeding, which is often at that size of LCD even on the best panels.

Thanks in advance!

If you are planning on gettinga LCD monitor, make sure you get it widescreen. All of the newer games support widescreen and it make games alot sharper. Go to Newegg.com and look on there for a montior you want to get. I just bought a 20 inch widescreen monitor for under $200.

Yes LCDs are better for the eyes. LCDs are sharper and flatter then CRTS. Its easier on the eyes. Plus LCDs use up less energy so it will save you money.
