This is for everyone who is still assuming that Crytek will be releasing patch that supports DX11. Apparently these claims were just rumors starting on some forums and held no validity whatsoever. Here is my source, anyone got anything offering conflicting information? Also, if they were releasing DX11 I think most of us would have read it on MyCrysis, Facebook or Twitter, or something alike. Not gathering that information from either of those sources, or even being able to find it directly stated from Crytek themselves via one of these sources was evidence enough for me that there was in fact, no DX11 support coming. None the less, I still enjoy the game and find it to be great. I just don't appreciate being lead to believe something about the game simply so I would commit to purchasing it. Had I known this, I might have waited

A little off topic, but will mods be an option like Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead? Or did they screw us in that regard as well?

Why? Just because they they aren't coming out with a DX11 patch they never promised in the first place somehow means the game isn't fun and worth it for the people who purchased it?

infact, here it is again, just for you. Cry-Tom : No patch was ever confirmed, I have no idea why this website even posted such information. This thread is locked just the same as the others for trying to spread inaccurate information. When there are any big announcements regarding Crysis 2 they will be posted on MyCrysis, if you read something about a patch for example, but don't see it on MyCrysis.com, then it isn't genuine. Here's the post since everyone want to see by themselves http://www.mycrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=15962 GOOD NEWS ________ Cry-Tom: Patch 1.2 will be made available through Auto-download feature in the coming week Cry-Tiago: Cooking some great DX11 tech bits for C2 fans, be patient guys. All I can say, is that we have 16 ms or more to have fun with pc hardware... (Source Twitter Account) -----------------------------------------------What it means------------------------------------------------------ "milliseconds. It means that using the DX11 API, there's a huge overhead of unused compute time that gives the engineers the ability to add in more features, content, etc. It's great because it means that PC will have much more than consoles. It's horrible because that shows just how much consoles held back the PC version. Console developers fight tooth and nail just to scrounge an additional ms for anything. Basically, the video card takes time to preform the tonnes of computations to render out a single frame. With a millisecond being a unit of time, it goes to show you just how much a computer can do in that duration. The minimum spec for PC has the video card shelling out over 500 gigaflop/s and it's not even a DX11 card. If memory serves, the first DX11 cards came three generations later (9k series, 200 series, and arriving on the 300 series). According to the CE3 autopsy posted a couple of days ago, water ripple propogation took only .2 milliseconds on consoles. The 16 ms in comparison would be akin to adding water propogation 80 times and not having any hindrance on performance, we still have to wait and see how much they will cram in but yes it's a VERY VERY good thing. to give you an idea of it sun shadows(very demanding) take between 2-5ms. they are talking about a good chunk of overhead before damaging your current fps. the new engine is quite impressive so we will see just how far they go now that they are not having to cater to consoles. I've seen your post regarding that, but where is the real verification of that on MyCrysis? It shouldn't be a forum topic, that offers basically no validity. It should be up front on the main page of the "News" section, considered its a major NEWS topic to us PC gamers. Until I see it on the news forum, or posted through Facebook directly from Crytek or EA I am firmly a non-believer.

Yes Yes, their engine is decent. Invisible Walls in crates and various other environments where I cannot shoot or be shot through is amateurish and is common in Crysis 2. TERRIBLY abusable A.I is amateurish and again incredible common in this game. Not taking suggestions to increase the variation of enemies in thier games is again the same deal. People are having thier Alien DNA points whiped for no reason, the multiplayer is a complete and utter CoD clone with nano suits that is nowhere near as ambitious as Crysis 1 (granted it failed, due to yet again thier inability to be AAA devs to begin with.). Id give Crysis 1 and 8.5, and Crysis 2 and 8.0 .... both decent, but so many faults with thier games is hilarious to see how far graphic hype and engine hype can get a game, neither is AAA quality.

I'm laughing, too. Namely, I'm laughing at all the fun I'm having playing this game.

I'm happy that Crytek are not concerning themselves with a silly DX11 patch and am hoping

that all resources are put into releasing a patch that will fix the real bugs in this game.

Here is the argument from the article:

At first glance the textures in Crysis 2 may look improved, with the appearance of more detail, and a slightly more realistic look. Certainly if you were only to run past them that may be the impression you're left with. But let's take a closer look at what's really going on here.

It's a shooter, you're supposed to run past these boxes. You wanna study and contemplate pretty pictures? Go to the Louvre.

Seriously, epic gaming journalism fail.

IMHO, Crysis 2 is probably the most solid shooter currently on the market. It stand heads and shoulders above lame-ass selfindulgent crap like Bioshock.

here, when they locked the thread, last post. http://www.mycrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=15962 whether it meets your requirements of "real verification" or not is your issue. Thats the current official word from crytek. just cause its not on a sticky or plastered in an article doesnt make it any less official.

In what way? how can you say that when they are so pointless similar. it must be down to theme because I cant seen any other logical explanation. At least Bioshocks A.I would actually attack you and pose a threat. At least it had a somewhat intriguing storyline. Both severely lacked enemy variety, something military shooters can get away with, but when theres mutants and aliens involved that take more of your time up its key to have variety.

They didn't even bother to create a difficulty curve later in the game, you could litterally stealth through it all and not fight. the final "battle" was incredible underwhelming compared to Crysis 1. Gotta love aliens that just run up to you to get punched in the face to death. (on 3rd difficulty) and A.I that stands there when your shooting them in the head. Most solid? no... decent game, typical AA standard shooter.

It was kind of strange, in some ways Crysis 2 surpassed Crysis 1 ... multiplayer, music, story, suit powers. but then, its a friggin CoD clone with super powers. It completely changed its FPS sub genre into something safe and average, instead of trying to fix the flaws in the first game which had a much more ambition.

The fact that Crysis 2, at launch, fails to live up to the original in a variety of ways is disappointing. If they can't make a sequel that truly improves upon the original, then they should just work with original IPs. If you are having fun and happy, then I salute you. For me, with games increasing in price, I expect steps forward, not steps backward.

You really think it's ok for them to release a sequel that has less detailed graphics than a 4 year old game? Why did I bother buying a new computer in that timeframe? Graphics have always improved in the past years of PC gaming. With the hardware and technology for better graphics being available, I see no reason for this direction to change.

Making a patch to update the graphics is a cop out. No point in buying games on launch day anymore. Just wait a few months, pay less, and get better graphics.

im going to go with PR. communication screw up. though if i was crytek id be ripping that mag that spread the rumour a new one. yet another fine example of the standard of journalism in gaming. what he probably meant to say was "a DX11 patch for monday was never confirmed" or something along those lines. i wouldnt write off a DX11 patch just yet until they clear up this PR mess.

Well, in my opinion, with Crysis 2's "shortcomings" it still looks better than the first one and also the fact that you know, with more or less the same quality MOST PEOPLE can play the game at 60fps rather than a slide show and enjoy the game. Does the game really need to chug and overheat your GPU with extra gimmicks so you can have fun with the game?

Tell me, what's the difference between Crysis 2 with DX9 and Crysis 2 with DX11? Tessellation? Better water effects? More god rays? HSAO? They sure effect the gameplay right? My guns gonna be more overpowered cause it has more bumps and scratches on it, am I right?

Only time I'll see DX11 as not being a gimmick is when it's tessellation and other features are used properly.Would love to see Ezio from Assassin's Creed climbing up a wall and his hands and feet accurately grabbing on extruded parts of the wall due to tessellation. I could not give 2 sh!ts about seeing an "epicly" tesselated wall in my game and it has to gameplay value to it.

P.S.: I really hate Gamespot's Quick Reply -_- it messes the formatting every-single-time...

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/29/crysis-2-technical-analysis/ I love RPS.

It's a joke article.

Exactly...my god how can anyone not get that the author is making fun of people who nitpick and whine about things they know nothing about. "Epic gaming journalism fail"...just...i am speechless at this guys, I do not even know what to call it.

You really think it's ok for them to release a sequel that has less detailed graphics than a 4 year old game? Why did I bother buying a new computer in that timeframe?.

You certainly didn't do it for one game.

Far too epic for one to comprehend. Blizzard should make a CGI Starcraft movie :P Best game of 2010 by far.

I am laughing at every person who bought this game right now

Why? Just because they they aren't coming out with a DX11 patch they never promised in the first place somehow means the game isn't fun and worth it for the people who purchased it?

Well the game was said to be a dx11 showcase, then they pulled it out at the last second. So yeah they promised it.

I never knew people cared more for DirectX rather than having fun with the game...eh, who am I kidding, ~90% of PC Gamers are just graphics wh0res now... what a shame.trastamad03

Why is it no one can talk about visuals without someone like you coming along?

Talking about X is not evidence that people don't care about Y, they just happen to be talking about X.

Where did they promise Crysis 2 would have DX11 or say it will showcase dx11 and then decided to pull it?

That says they are "cooking tech bits for C2 fans." It doesnt say they are adding DX11 in a patch. They will probably release some video of Cryengine 3 doing something cool with DX11 that well never get to see in C2.

Did you follow the games development at all? It was all over the place up until the last month.

The point they're making is that Monday was never slated for anything. It doesn't mean a DX11 patch is never coming.

(Doesn't mean it is, either, but let's try to be positive)

Can you please link to where they said this? I followed the game's development but not compulsively, I might have missed a few press releases.

Read the article, people. CtyTek is addressing the rumors of the patch coming out on a certain date, not denying the patch.

Yeah people are taking this way out of proportion. They said that the patch, that is rumored to have DX11 and come this week, was never confirmed. Not that DX11 is never coming.
