hi........

before Crysis was released i was watching the Trailers (just like all of you...) and i was thinking : damn these graphics are insane.

so what happened is that when crysis was released i didn't get the quality of graphic just like in the official videos....so i thought that my system is weak and because i was running the game with medium settings..........the surprise was when i went to my friend house and he was running the game with all very high and AAx2,DX10 i found out that the game really don't have the graphic that Crytek promised to provide ??? so what the hell is going on ??? why don't we -the gamers- can't get what we paid for ???

if i was wrong in something plz tell me........

btw i saw many people complain that they didn't get the graphics that they wanted either...

I might be alone here, but I think the game looks much better than it did previously. It used to look really plastic and extremely "thick", and they fixed it.

First time I downloaded the demo last year, I was playing in low quality and it looked great. Then I upgraded my graphic card and started playing in the medium-high range and it was AWESOME. Trust me, when you compare this game with others, you'll see the big change.

If those were the actual in-game graphics, there would be extreme system requirements up the ass along with it.

Those screenshots comparing "ingame" to real life photos made the game look completly stunning. I've only played the demo, wasn't expecting the "ingame" screenshots they released to be what the game actually looked like.

I don't get what you're upset about. It's not like other games' developers don't add eye candy to screenshots before releasing their games. Never get your hopes too big.

Publishers always touch up the screenshots before they get released. The graphics in game are awesome compared to anything that has come before it but I don't really care for the game myself, it's all eye candy and not a lot of anything else.

A couple of mods, such as the natural mod, can amp up the graphical experience of crysis pretty well.

Although I do agree that the graphics don't look as good as the prerelease screenshots of last year, but nevertheless it is still an extremely good looking game.

i'm not angry about the whole game.......it just that they did do what they promised to do..........i know this game is better than other game and i agree but what i'm talking about that they didn't make the game look like the videos they released before the game........

and btw if you don't understand me........just go to youtube and type CRYSIS HD and you will see what i mean.

the bottem line is that they didn't make the game look like HD which they said they will do......

games will almost never look good as some screenshots, when you take a picture of yourself with an expensive good digital camera, it can make you look better than you do in real life, thats just how things go.

well that wasn't a screenshot its a whole video.......

i have a little expirence in HD and blu-ray things but i heard that they used Blu-ray discs to make the graphics in the videos look great and that the really size of the game was supposedto be 20GB or something like it....anyway i'm not sure if is true

Blu-Ray doesn't have any effect on the quality of the graphics, as it is just a storage medium. All it can really affect graphicwise is the quality (size) of the textures, but you'd hit the limit of texture memory on a video card way before the extra storage capacity of blu-ray would have any effect.

At the moment blu-ray seems to be mainly used for higher quality sound, and HD cutscenes -- which are able to take advantage of the extra storage capacity.

The graphics from the tech demos had different colour and contrast settings, which the retail version doesn't have. Try googling 'natural mod' for crysis and take a look at the screenshots. It's alot more atmospheric and shadows and lighting stand out alot better. Gives a whole different 'mood' to the game (need all settings on high though I think for it to work properly, don't know for sure, try reading the notes with the mod. Very high not needed, luckily!).

What you're talking about is I think only one trailer, the very first, the one from E3 05, cause the trailers after that looked more like or closer to the final version. The only thing that looked better in the first trailer were the lighting and the plants and that's it.

If you watch the trailer again you can see how bad the textures on the gun and nanosuit look compared to those in the final version of the game.

Yeah, those lying bastards made the best looking game ever. Total failure. I hope that someone hits them with a series of prank sex changes and they wake up without their meat and two veg. It's better than they deserve.

Seriously, how can you complain? So, yeah, the preview stuff wasn't as good as the final cut. So what? A company lied? Well I say! Golly gosh!

Who cares about the lies and the marketing BS? No one who saw those videos would have been thinking it'd look that good on their PC anyway. That was just common sense.

Not many people were sure what the 8800GTX was capable of. I wouldn't really call it common sense when few people have over $500 to spend on a video card to prove the previews were fabricated. After spending a few thousand dollars on my computer, I have to say Crysis really isn't that impressive. I'm more impressed by nVidia's technology than Crytek's, to be quite frank.

i felt the same way when i played the demo. i thought maybe it was just because it was a demo but nope. full version was the same way. however there are plenty of areas where the detail didn't seem to drop much from the pre release screenies and was just amazing.

It's rather sad that people can buy the best hardware out there, and they still won't max the game @ DX10 w/ 60FPS. If the game looked any better, we wouldn't be able to run it too well for a year or so.

Well, I'm very, very, very unsavvy when it comes to hardware, and I saw it coming as soon as I saw the videos. If I can see it coming, people who actually knew that the 8800GTX would be a top line card (something I didn't know at the time because I don't know a thing about hardware!), should be able to see it coming. We don't have leaps that large.

As for how Crysis looks, I dunno how anyone can not find Crysis impressive. Two words: draw distance. Nothing comes close, not even Far Cry. It's not just about how good looking it is, it's about how big the environments are. Most FPS games are set in small box-rooms - and most FPS games don't look as good.

It's very well-known that pre-release hype is amplified by heavily edited screenshots. They always sharpen things up and add some contrast and subtle detail using Photoshop and the likes and it ends up disappointing the naive gamers out there. The only game I can recall that looked exactly like its pre-release screenshots was Half-Life 2.

I'm only going by memory but I'm pretty sure some pre-release shots did look better than when the game came out. I remember rows of Combine walls crawling around looking extremely sharp and amazingly animated but in the full game there was nothing like that.

I don't know why people keep considering "Crysis" as the "Holy Grail" of the computer platform.I've played the game with my "Asus 8800 GTX 768" and an "Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme E6850" on "High"(Not "Very High",because i don't have "Vista" installed),and i can assure you that it's just another "Far Cry" with better graphics. You must venture into a useless tropical island to complete one of the most stupid and simple storylines ever made.C'mon,i mean i've only seen three different aliens for a game that costs "1.500" euros.Pathetic!

Crytek never "promised" to make it look like anything. They never stated in any way that the preview videos were precisely what the game would look like. Those videos were a showcase of CryEngine 2.0, not Crysis. Crytek has said that Crysis is not the limit of CE2's graphical capabilities, and that they will release patches in the future which will unlock higher settings using more advanced effects of the engine. So, don't worry, the game will be able to look like they previously showed eventually.

First, those screenshots you refer to were from the Alpha build.

Second, the Crysis engine is capable of doing that.

Third, the development team, seeing the game already had insane requirements, scaled it down a bit so it would play on 20% of the gaming community's PCs instead of 5%.

Fourth, I dont see how this qualifies as a failure since its the best looking game in history, and will continue to be the best looking for the next few years.

Dude, HD doesnt really mean anything. Its just a buzzword used in place of "higher resolution than normal TVs". Same with bluray...like someone said, a blueray disk is the medium, not the actual tech of HD video. The data on the disc is the actual teach of HD.

As for Crysis, it is very much HD.

Out of curiosity, what resolution did your buddy have it on? I have to play the game at less-than-native resolution on my monitor and it tends to look grainy, but that is my LCD's fault.

Only on non-punkbuster servers (it won't let you join punkbuster servers), which means it's 90% hackers.

I just tried out the demo and I must say, while it does look very good (I play the game at very high settings, 1024x768 no AA), the annoying thing isn't that it doesn't look as good as its pre-release screenshots, but that it performs pretty poorly. I experienced no hitches whatsoever, but the overall feel of the game was far choppier than, say, Bioshock or Gears of War. If there's any way to tweak the game to look as good and run better, please let me know.

If those were the actual in-game graphics, there would be extreme system requirements up the ass along with it.

there allready is extreme system requirements. you have to pay 350 bucks on a gpu just to run it. be lucky you guys can even run it. complaning about graphics? come on bro. atleast you can play it

What in the world are you talking about?

I know someone who tweaked the game to get it running on his radeon 9500 and it was playable. Saying you need a $350 GPU just to play the game was just outright stupid to say.

The game isn't that demanding giving how amazing the game looks. In fact, it's a well optimized game that a lot of people bash because of their faulty hardware.

The graphics look as close to IRL as you're going to get. Crysis far from diappointed. Whoever said you need a $350 GPU to run it, I was using a 9600GT for a bit for fun ($169 or less) and I ran the game at 1680x1050 with no AA and all settings at High. You don't need a killer rig, just a solid one.

I take my last statement back. Playing the game at 1280x1024 I could play the game though the frame rate was far from perfect. It would get really jerky at very tight spots against many enemies and when the lighting in the sky changes but overall I'm very impressed. In no way is it disappointing.

The biggest letdown for me was the lack of AA on plants. Heck, if they rendered AA only on plants, the game would look much better overall. Other than that, there weren't any major disapointments for me. In fact, I thought there were lots of little, nice things that you don't find in other games (ex: when running into a wall, your hands come up and brace you). It's lots of things such as that which can really make the game immersive.

All of these were taken from the actual retail game.

the engine of the game is capable of looking better than it is when you put it on very high because it was build to last (said during an interview with one of the developers), and as long as we don't see graphics cards running very high settings with an avarage of minimum 60, I don't think they will choose to activate thos 'very very high settings' ;)

another possibility is that maybe the Crysis HD video was rendered with all possible engine features (even those that didn't make it to the released game because it would make the game a slideshow), without regards to fps or actual gameplay
