Just out of curiosity, I wanted to know how many Gamespotters buid their own computers and how many buy pre-builts.

You should poll this on PC Gaming forum. >>GhoXWhy? I'm pretty sure building a computer pertains more to hardware than games

Only started building my own about two years ago, but have built three since then. It's either an expensive hobby or an addiction, I'm not sure which.

I think it's both. It's hard not to buy new stuff and just build it once it's done for the first time. I just buy the parts and have a friend put them together for me, it's really addicting. But sense I now have new computers for the entire family I guess I'm done for now.
Custom builds for me though there are some nice pre-built machines out there for decent prices. Nice thing about custom machines is saving a bit of money and being able to truly customize the machine to your liking without the outrageous prices some companies chart for a better part than the standard available in a particular machine. Besides, upgrading a pre-built can come with a host of other problems like the PSU not being powerful enough for a new graphics card, etc. which results in not only the cost of the new graphics card but a new PSU too.
I custom build mine... although every now and then i get great deals on some prebuilds that i'll game on for a year or so...
Best Buy built mine, but I picked the gpu and psu and they installed it for me. Now I wish I would have bought a better fan for it as the gpu is getting too hot to run without a regular household fan sitting right beside the intake vent. I have thought about building my own rig, but the one I have now is good aside from not having enough air flow in the case. I just need the new fan for now. GPU upgrading in the next year or two possible.

True, but I put it here because I figure it'd get locked for not being about games

Kinda-off topic but, how's that case? It looks massive and I'd like to have a case with some room.
It looks massive because it's tall, but not deep. As you can see from my pic I don't have room for a case deeper than about 17-18". Airflow is excellent because there's nothing to block the air stream from two of the 140 mm intakes across the MB and GPUs. Room for the largest GPUs and everything in separate compartments, but it's expensive - Hard to justify the cost unless, like myself, you just like Lian Li cases.
