ok so i recently finished dark messiah of might and magic and was left feeling very satisfied with the game. i thought the combat system was great, the use of steams physics was awesome, and it was just a really fun experience overall. i think gamespot was far too harsh with their review. in my opinion it deserved a much higher rating. anyone else agree?

I was graphically very good, sounded incredible, the levels were good but the combat system was far too complex for it's own good. Also the usage of traps was just overboard.

I played the demo and I didn't think the combat was too complex. But then again I only played the demo.

I'm quite far in the game and the combat doesn't get much more complex than the demo. Not sure what that other mang's talking about.

i found dark messiah to be an amazing game. everyone seemed to want it to be another oblivion but it was never intended to be one. the game itself was great and easy to get into just a linear game but it worked perfectly to me.

For its time, i would say no.

Dark Messiah is a pretty fun game, but it had entirely too many bugs and problems. Fortunately, its gotten rid of alot of them and is deserving of an 8.0-ish score.

I would love to play a game with Morrowind's depth/story, Oblivion's polish, and Dark Messiah's combat.

Yeah I agree ThelronLotus.

I actually really liked Dark Messiah, and if it was given a few more weeks to iron out some to of the initial bugs, it would have definately scored much better. I would recommend getting it through STEAM as they just had a price cut on it.

I had problems with Dark Messiah crashing or freezing almost every time I get to a load screen. The game would be much better if it didnt have stability issues.

Definitely! Dark Messiah was all kinds of fun. It's not a game I'd spend the next five years of my life playing, but I definitely enjoyed it. Bugs aside (Helloooo, patch!), I have no idea why it only scored a 6.7, because I definitely would have given it at least a 7.5. I actually found the combat to be really refreshing and a lot of fun, not at all "repetitive" or "unsatisfying", as the review so inaccurately states. Not sure what Jeff's deal was that day. :P

Dark Messiah was a great game, it ONLY got bad reviews due to the state it was released in - VERY, very buggy almost unplayable for certain low-end to high-end configurations.

Well it was reviewed by jeff gertsman ... so he is the guy who in most part 70% is looking for graphics only .... & Dark Messiah had superb graphics but with some bugs ... i mean its source engine its still 1one of the best engines out there & its 2-3 years old & it still can compete very well with next gen engines .... i mean it was next gen from the start ....ough & back to Jeff wehn he reviewed Gears of War ... don't tell me that thegame wasn't repetitive... Dark Messiah had a ton of new content witch you haven't seen in any game before & he tells us that it was repetitive ...don't get me wrong i like GoWto butclearly that game'sstrenght was its graphics so i'm sure that Jeff was hipnotized by that !!! In theend Dark Messiah was a superb game & i'v played it 3 times with every skill tree at maximum :D !

You have to buy it. You got a credit card?

I agree though, great game. The online is good too, but there aren't that many dedicated servers out there for the game. Plus if you find a decent one there are usualy problems with evening out the teams like 6 vs. 11 . Lame

I think it was reviewed with out any patches so it was really buggy. But now it works good. I would rate it in the 8's

To me it is. Easily in my top3 favorite games of 2006. But then again...I was fortunate enough to not have any hardware problems with it, it was completely bug free for me.

my problems with dark messiah:

the combat system, while good, is somewhat negated by how easy it is to kill people, especially with the mid-game twist, which makes combat kinda pointless, not to mention the absurd number of walls with spikes that show up every time enemies do

stealthing is impossible or impractical for large stretches of the game, and since it's so easy to just cut people open, stealthing carries a great deal of redundency anyway - i don't like being a part time assassin who's on the verge of hanging up his daggers in favour of a sword because it's simply more effective

the game is (or was) bug ridden, i had my first and only ever bsod while playing a game in xpwith dark messiah, i also experienced other annoying bugs such as AIs returning to life after i'd killed them (if i killed them a certain way), and this time i couldn't cause them damage, and i had gotten stuck on ropes more than once

the set pieces would be great, only a few of them degenerate into tedious trial and error which fundamentally ruins the coolness and atmosphere

the game suffers from a harry potter level of lite fantasy, people who read stuff likesteven erikson, glen cook and tolkien will find it annoying to endure, plus the voice acting is inappropriately cast, and mostly badly written

quicksave and load must've been an injoke the developers left in, plus the game was pretty choppy at times, even after scaling back to medium textures (and this is on a high end rig that devours hl2 at over 100fps)

it's not a terrible game, but it has a ton of flaws... i had some fun with it, but i'd say 6.7 (if my memory is correct) was an utterly fair score - bear in mind that 6.7 isn't exactly a bad score, anything 6+ is worth buying if you're a fan of the genre, really...

For me it seemed a little foofy. It was trying to come across as serious, but it didn't seem like the graphics/game mechanics/or voice acting and dialogue lent itself to being that. It was OK, and I did play it all the way through, but I guess I just was looking for something a little more real feeling.
