Hi guys, hopefully if i manage to sell my ps3 i will be able to buy a computer. I have been looking on this site, www.dinopc.com but i am a little confused when it comes to the RAM. Basically, i buy a customised computer with DDR2 it will save me a lot of money than if i bought it with DDR3. Is DDR3 really worth it? I want this computer for gaming and multimedia (im not a hardcore gamer though). Also, if i buy a quad core, and fit my 9600 gt gpu in it, will i be able to run games like ut3 @ high settings with a decent frame rate? Thanks, Sean

The 9600GT isn't a great card, but it's pretty good. With a decent CPU most games will run well on medium to high settings. It will almost certainly run games better than the Ps3 too. As for ram, i don't think in your case DDR3 would really be worth it.

I'm no expert in this, but it's just better and faster ram as far as i'm concerned. It may make a difference in certain applications and maybe a few more frames in games. But if it's much more expensive you should be fine with DDR2.

If its doesnt cost to much getting a mobo/cpu that support DDR3, I'd say get it. The performance DDR2 modules are close in performance to the slightly cheaper DDR3 modules. (In games atleast, Mhz>Timings for games.)

a ddr3 board is more future proof but offers not performance increase over ddr2.

Tbh I'd recommend you get a PC with 4GB (ddr2 or ddr3), a graphics card 9800GT/4850 or better. And run the CPU past us before you order.

No difference between DDR2 or DDR3 whatsoever. Pick whichever ones the cheapest.

Ok man, will do. well at the moment the best i have come up with is this: amd athlon x2 245 dual core @2.9ghz, 4b ddr2 ram @ 800mhz, 160gb hdd, optical dvd/rw drive, onboard graphics (*i will be buying a graphics card separately*), onboard 7.1 audio and i have my own copy of win 7. All this for £226 EXCLUDING the graphics card. What do you think? Would this setup run games like ut3 smooth with say an nvidia 9800? Thank you again, Sean

I think having looked at the total price with a pretty decent graphics card, a quad core processor is out of the question lol :P

Well a dual core CPU + a 9800 should run games pretty damn well :) I recently build a 3 core phenom, 500gb hdd, 4GB ddr2, 9800GT pc for US$ 550 and it runs everything nicely

Sounds good 2 me :P. One thing im a bit annoyed about is that i looked up the psu i wanted to get with this prebuilt system, and found the reviews to be really awful. So i might have to dish out more money and buy the 700w that is available

A E8400 is one of the best dual cores you can get for a reasonable price, tho for the same price you get a AMD quad-core =/ And, what PSU did you have in mind?

Never go cheap on a PSU, make sure you buy a good brand or you will regret it later.
