Has anyone here purchased Dead Island? I am looking into getting it but i'm not sure if its going to be a game that I can get into and stick to it the whole way through. I'm usually not big on Zomie games, but I love open world RPG's, so I am going to hopefully give this a go.

It has lots of problem now, they released the wrong build on Steam and there are also quite a few bugs, but I pre-ordered anyway :P (glad that EU didn't get it like this, still 2 days to go) for the same reason, I'm not big on zombie games, but I love open world games and apparently even if rough, it shines as an open world game.

Wrong version got sent to steam, sucks but thats life, sometimes ridicolous things happen that should never ever happen.

I feel kinda bad for em to be honest.

i played it last night. i thought it was fun. i was playing it with a friend coop. if you plan on playing this game, definitely play it with a friend or 3 it makes the experience much more fun. also, yes the game has bugs that need to be worked out but i still had a good time playing it. there was an instant where we couldnt coop for about 30 minutes but it eventually came back and coop was enabled. cant wait til they patch it up, but even so im still having fun with it. if you like games like fallout and dead rising, i think you might just like this game.

also, i did read that they sent the wrong game file to steam and i hope they patch it up where basically we have the original with patches cuz thats pretty bad. whoever sent the wrong file probably deserves to get fired.

Ignoring the bugs its a solid game. I would best describe it as a mix of Borderlands and Fallout 3 with zombies and a Far Cry tropical island. Honestly I was expecting a pretty linear experience but the size of the game is overwhelming (in a good way). I'm not very far in, but so far I like the brutal melee combat, weapon loot and upgrades system, RPG skills, and the exploration. If it wasn't for the bugs I'd recommend it 100%, with the bugs it's still a great game but I'm sure some people would get fed up with some of the issues. For example I was getting constant 1 second freezes and had to turn the game online setting to LAN multiplayer, but now the game plays fine. I will warn you though it is an obvious console port, so if your one of those people that gets ticked off at stuff like that it might annoy you. Personally the only thing that bothers me is I think the FOV is to narrow.

The upcoming patch (Friday) says it fixes about 42 bugs so I'm sure these things will be addressed. I haven't bought it yet cause I want to play Co-Op but can't find anyone to play with me

It's actually a pretty good game(which surprised me because I wasn't expecting much). It reminds a lot of Borderlands, which I loved, with zambies and a ton of melee combat. The biggest problems are it's completely broken(will be fixed soon) and I didn't figured out a way to use analog combat with mouse/keyboard in my short time with the game.

It's better than good it's amazing. Honestly this kind of game only comes around once in a blue moon. With that said the bugs are present so those not wishing to endure them (personally haven't bothered me much) wait until Friday.

I've never played a game where it's more satisfying to kill zombies.

^ I'm telling ya! It gets so frantic it's crazy lol. I was fighting like 5 zombies...smashing them with a boat paddle...then it broke and I had my knife which I threw into one of their face. I only had crowbar at that point and finished the rest off by smashing their heads in.

Despite their Dev Build fiasco and crazy bugs and issues, it's a great game. It's FUN and totally worth it once they get around to patching it up. Just hang tight.

After having played Dead Island for a few hours, I have to say that I'm pretty dissappointed.

The game just isn't as fun or satisfying as similar Zombie genre games such as LFD.

I truly do love it, it's just tough to recommend to others at this point in it's release. I'm confident the situation will be righted though.

The combat is intense, satisfying, and most importantly, fun. The world is unpredictable and always interesting, packed with plenty of reason to just go out exploring even if you aren't trying to complete one of the MANY sidequests or story missions. Immersion is great too, though it does get docked some points for not letting me turn off that giant crosshair. :P

There is nothing-NOTHING-like jump kicking a zombie into a swimming pool and watching it DROWN. That is, by far, my favorite thing about the game so far. It's also friggen amusing kicking zombies off of stairs and ledges (complete with damage and gibbing!). Hell, I'd say that the kick attack is what's making the experience for me. Even running around punching zombies unarmed is entertaining as hell. Attacks have a real weight to them, though I never really feel like the longer weapons hit as far as they should (seems to be a gripe I've been having with a lot of first-person melee combat systems these days...). The gore and corpses are frigging horrifying and the visible multilayer damage system... awesome. The inventory interface could've been optimized for PC, but it's bearable. I'm not digging the lock-on when throwing items and the option to turn off motion blur would've been nice (seems like the Source engine is the only one that doesn't make me feel like throwing up whenever I turn a slight degree). Opening containers is kind of annoying (press button, wait for opening animation, press button again to take item from container), but that's just a minor gripe that I got used to. I don't really care about the story right now and I find more amusement in the small, individual quirks of the minor NPCs (teddy bear sidequest was serious business) The game isn't the most polished, but so far it's living up to what it said it'd do: create a first person open world zombie survival game with RPG elements. If this is what the wrong build feels like, then i can only expect a smoother version of a pretty solid experience to come.

Hasn't been repetitive yet to me in 9 hours of play. It's got plenty of variation in my opinion.

Looks like the kind of game I'll be waiting for a steam sale for. 75% off sounds about right.

How does a developer who can't even upload the right files get funding? Heads would have rolled for that I think :(

Might have, Deep Silver isn't exactly known for looking over the small mistakes, when they're involved in something and it makes them look bad, they'd go as far as to make sure to run the developers into ground if they make the smallest mistakes with the games they plan on publishing.

Deep Silver and Atari are some of the worst publishers that are still in the business. Shame there's nobody to take over Germany and certain other regions from EU that Deep Silver usually publishes.

I had to start over from Prologue due to a save game bug and I enjoyed it almost as much as the first time. Bashing in zombies' heads never gets repetitive. It's fun as heck. Trying different type of weapons, upgrading them or investing points your skill tree to see results in combat is damn cool. So far, I only created 4 different custom weapons and they're very fun to use.

Iv been playing for a few hours now and it seems like a pretty good game but is ruined somewhat by the overly cheesyness of it all. Imagine playing Left4Dead in an open world envinroment and a story mode with the sense of survival and then mix that with the stupidness of a game like Dead Rising, youve got something that could have been great if it hadnt been made into a joke.

I cannot comprehend how you get a Dead Rising level of cheesiness out of this game...
