I wanted to get your opinions on the 360 version of Dead Space vs the PC one. I want to get this game, but am unsure which to get.

PC will have better graphics, but from what I've read there are mousing issues (even if you deactivate Vsync). I think the controls are always better for FPS on the PC, but with 3rd person it hasn't always impacted me as much on the console. Also, for the 360 version, I will get to play it on my big screen with surround sound speakers which will add to the mood I would think.

What do ya think?

I wouldn't say so much that there are mousing issues just that it's a little wierd playing a game on the pc from a 3rd person perspective but your brain wants to play it like a FPS. Myself after an hour or so of play my brain got used to it and I had no problems.

Dead Space is a game that really benefits from surround sound and big screen. Also I think the game is probably better with a controller because you can't turn and aim as fast/good, so it actually makes the game even more scary, mouse controlls will probably make it to easy. I would go for the 360 version if I were you, the graphics are really good anyway.

I got Dead Space for the PC, and the mouse does get annoying. It was ment to be played on a controller, and it would probably work better on one. Anything besides the mouse, the game was awesome. So, if you don't mind the problems with the mouse, go for the PC version, also make sure your graphics card is good enough to run it.

If you have a 360 controller...use that. With the mouse I found that rotating around the character while aiming was very hard with a mouse and keyboard setup. It's just more natural with two analog sticks.

I have never played Dead Space, but I don't see how any game can have more precise aiming with a controller over a mouse. I have played plenty of FPS games on console and PC, and I just can't imagine the controller being better in any situation.

PC version is too easy with the control setup. Taking off limbs is much more difficult on the 360 version.

Got it for PC and I love it. The controls aren't as bad as many says. The 360 controller probably feels more natural for the game, though. But why do you care? Just use your 360 controller for the PC version, if you wish.

Your big screen and sound setup really makes me think you should go for the 360 version, though. The sound in the game is awesome (and so is playing the game on a big screen). The graphics doesn't differ much.

This hedgehog can't imagine playing it on any platform besides PC. It looks great, it runs flawlessly, loads and saves super fast and plays extremely well with a keyboard and mouse.

I don't know what the mouse problem is people seem to be having. I wonder if it's that they try and turn while in aim mode, which is certainly not how you are meant to play. Whatever the problem is, I didn't experience it.

The PC version is excellent.

This is definitely better on the PC and benefits greatly from the PC controls, as does any shooting game. As for sound, a good headset is more immersive than any surround sound system could ever be.

i disagree with your comment a good headset can be better than any surround sound system could ever be..

first of all its opinion... which in my opinion, i say i have had some times with headphones that were emersive, and times with 5.1 surround that were emersive, i guess it depends on if you want stereo or suround, (cause surround sound headphones dont really sound all that great to me)... but for stereo, headphones all the way.

now thats my opinion.

Yeah, I think true surround sound is great, but 'faked' headset surround is very good considering its low price. I live with a headset because I can't afford a surround system (I also don't have space).

The mouse is floaty, with or without Vsync/triple buffering. It was definitely built with console functionality in mind. The menus corresponded with each key is out of whack. Like you press I to open up the inventory but you press tab to close it or exit it. Why not just press I again to close it. As far as I know, there is no hotkey for first aid kits to use during battles if needed be. So you're nearly dead and running away from monsters, trying to pull up your inventory to heal.. mind you.. the game doesn't pause. It keeps going. So while you're trying to navigate the menus, you're getting chomped off by aliens. The controls were my biggest disappointment. I also have to note that there are weird flickering/lighting in this game. It's not normal. It makes the game look like it's screen-tearing. I played Dead Space on max settings, and the graphics looks good, but not THAT good. I've seen better, and I expected better. It seems like they didn't really push it in terms of the PC version.. and focused more on the consoles..seeing as how that has the bigger market of gamers. Money talks I guess...

I don't have this problem at all. No other hedgehogs I know personally have the problem, either, and I know four other hedgehogs who own the game. Do you have a problem with camera movement all the time, or is it just when aiming. If it's just when aiming, is it all the time when aiming, or just when doing turns (180 spin, or whatever)? Because you aren't meant to turn in aim mode. You drop aim mode, spin your camera around (very fluidly for me and my fellow hedgehogs) then pop back into aim mode. Et voià!

The menus corresponded with each key is out of whack. Like you press I to open up the inventory but you press tab to close it or exit it.[Elann2008

Tab opens and closes your rig, which defaults open to the inventory screen. Don't bother with I.

There is a hotkey for healing. I believe the default is Q. There's even a tutorial tooltip for it during Chapter 1. Did you not read them?

Some people have probs with the controls but I found them very usable, takes a few minutes to get into the swing of the motion, but after that it's cruise control.

If you have a powerful computer then you wont have problems with the mouse(even with the Vsync on). Its actually more comfortable to aim with the mouse(i tried both).

I bought the 360 version. Which says alot considering that I typically give preference to pc versions of games. But after doing the easy research, it was clear that the PC version is inferior to the 360.

As far as I'm concerned once I resolved the Vsync issue I had no problems with the game. The graphics look fine; plus you get the PC benefit of higher resolutions and frame rate than the console versions (depending on system). In my case I play at my native res and usually get a frame rate in the mid 50s.

Like with most well optimised cross platform games I find the PC version is the superior one to play.

it's all about preference, FPS's normally are best played on a pc but the third person factor does have an impact on gameplay for some. but this isn't your typical third person shooter, say like the gears of war series or the GRAW series. there is a lot of close quarter action and that's when things get finicky. another example, CoD 4 i would soooo not be able to play on the 360 for the simple reason that my reaction time wouldn't be fast enough using a controller, and neither would be my ability to take headshots for example, and you know in that game sh*t goes down like no tomorrow so i've stuck to the pc on that one.

what is very crucial for this game to enjoy IS the sound, so don't cheap out on it otherwise you won't be experiencing the game to its fullest potential. it'll make hell of a difference that's for sure. i pretty much plan on hooking up my laptop to my tv with an hdmi cable so i'll be playing on the same tv i play my 360 on, except with a mouse and keyboard. that's how i played crysis and i pretty much died due to the sheer awesomeness. i would highly recommend anyone try that set up if they can. it takes a bit to get used to but once you get going it's totally worth it in the end.

There are some games where playing from the comfort of your couch on a nice flat screen and surround sound is great. This game, and horror games in general, are not meant to be played like that imo. There's nothing like playing in the dark at 2am, with a nice set of headphones on, sitting in your chair inches from the monitor totally submersed in the experience.

crap...how come nobody suggested this before...dude why don't you download the demo that's on the xbox live marketplace right now...it's not much but it'll give you an idea how the game plays and everything you need to know about the console. i haven't heard of a pc demo...but this should still be of some use. i just realized the posting was back in early november chances are the guy who originally asked the question has bought the game and finished it by now.
