I have a 750GB and have been trying to defrag for about 5 hours now.

I have about 250GBs of free space, but this is ridiculous. So, after googling about my problem I found that MS decided to make it as low priority as possible. **** that **** I want high priority now. So, I go to cmd and type defrag c: -w. It has been an hour and is still at 0%. WTF. Does my drive refuse to defrag itself? No that is just silly. All I want to do is crank up the priority on my defrag. How is this done?

EDIT: and yes, I know that -w does files bigger that 64mb. So, theoretically, it should take a bit longer....

Or partition your hdd for your OS(s). Takes me 5 minutes max to defrag, and all the storage drives and partitions don't get fragmented.

Thanks for the link. I am pretty sure I turned off the auto defrag and it is not starting in msconfig. It says it will be done in 32 minutes. Maybe because vista defrag had been running? I just want it to do it right. How can you judge how well this will do compared to vista defrag?

Vista defrag tools is the worst one compared to the windows defrag tools that applied on the previous version of windows. When you want to defrag, you only see a message, not a progress bar. Such a crap tool! Ok, if you want some alternative defrag softwares, here's the one that i had been used: Auslogics Disk Defrag and Smart Defrag.

Ok, here is an update on Smart Defrag. It defrags very fast (30 minutes) The deep optimation freezes my whole computer after an hour or 2. The fast optimization freezes my computer after an hour of running. So, I have moved on to JkDefrag64 version 3.36. I defragged with smart defrag now I am defragging with jkdefrag and it shows that my HDD is still fragmented quite heavily. (maybe because of the optimization failures?)

I am very pleased with jkdefrag because you can stick it on a flash drive and take from pc to pc. However, it does take quite a bit longer. It should take about 1 hour and 20 mins. if it keeps its speed.

Anyone know why Smart Defrag crashed my pc? I tried googling it with no luck.

I have heard that Vista restore makes defragging a pain. From what people have said, disable system restore, then defrag, and re-enable system restore afterwards if wanted. Not sure if it will help, but worth a shot.

Vista auto-defrag's your drive...no need for extra programs.
