Dell-Studio XPS Desktop i7 good buy ?

I am in the process of looking for a new PC to replace my 10 year old PC and I saw this on sale at Best Buy I was wondering if it is a good buy ?

Dell- Studio XPS Desktop/ Intel Core i7-2600 Processor, 8 GB DDR3 memory expandable to 16 GB, multiformat DVD+RW/CD-RW drive, 1.5 TB hard drive( 7200 rpm), ATI Radeon HD 6770 with1 GB of GDDR5 memory, 19-in-1 media reader, 8 high speed USB 2.0 ports, Built in Dell 1501 wireless-N PCI Express card, Built in Ethernet LAN, Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit preinstalled.

It's crap with a capital T. What good is an i7 you can't OC? You'll also have to replace that card if you want to do real gaming, and probably the PSU too. At that point you might as well replace the board, and... see where I'm going with this? :lol:istuffedsunny

It is not bad at all, the GPU is the weakest link as others mentioned, while it is not a relic, it is kind of the modern 8800, it keeps chugging, and is rock solid, but it is not something that will max out alot of games.

The PC itself is liekly a fiarly good build, Dell tends to be somewhat high priced, but thier componants are rarely bad (atleast the branch they have here).

A good alternative TC would be if you do the follwing:

Ask people in here what would be in a good pc, write it down, and find a computer shop that builds pcs (most of them do) go in with the list, and ask what it would cost. The likelyhood that the pc will be cheaper, and just as high quality as the Dell.

Then if t is more expencive, or the offer they give is somewhat lacking, then go back and buy the dell :P

Usually a mass produced PC IS cheaper then a custom made one, but the prices Dell PCs run in, makes me think, that it is not the case in this case.

(Ofcourse I am writing this because it sounds like you prefer to get a PC that is working, without building it yourself, which is quite fair to want, so no "build it yourself" here" ^^

No it's not good and you need to give us a budget for us to help you.

Anyone with a bit of patience learn how to build a PC, and for the same price as a pre-built you'll get better performance, and more importantly you can choose exactly what you want.

I bought this exact same computer from Best Buy a few days ago after my old PC **** a brick on me. I think it's damn good PC for the cash I paid, got it on sale too so I can't complain with a no-tax holiday here. The 6770 handles really well with every game I have thrown at it so far and basically I can nearly max out most games I have put it up against (Fallout NV, Arma 2 OA, Crysis (runs in full quality with ease), and even minecraft! :PGood computer for the money, I can't complain.

Personally I'm not much for overclocking a computer because I just don't know the process well enough, I had no plans on doing it anyways. I figure at most I'll buy a good video card once the next round of Nvidia and ATI cards hit the streets and I'll be ready to go for all the sweet games coming out in the next several months. In the meantime this computer really handles very well.
