The short answer is that Vista probably not yet compatible for games that were optimized to run on Windows 98 or earlier. With the popularity of Diablo 2, I'm sure it will eventually be playable, but you'll probably have to wait for a service pack or two. I don't run Vista, so I don't know what its compatibility options are like, but I know with XP, you had an option to run games as Win 98 or 95 - is there an option like that? Otherwise, I'm not sure what other advice I could give.

The issue is definitely a compatability problem with Vista. It's not going to work until they release a service pack or Vista update that includes compatability patches for games that old. If there is an option that says something about running a program in "Windows 98 compatible mode", then try that. And if not... tough.

I was told its because vista has directx10 for new games and directx9.0L for the older ones. When I asked him how he found this out, he said he read it right here at gamespot then gave me the url.. the page is a year old now.. but here it is, hope it helps. http://www.gamespot.com/features/6154735/index.html
