[QUOTE="SKaREO"] Next they'll say it's acceptable for the game to be online only even if that means waiting in long lines to play your game on a weekend or not being able to play it on your laptop while travelling abroad. Oh wait...WizardGlass

Dude you are a really bad troll so just piss off please

he has a legitimate argument.... stop being a fanboy

Im not being a fanboy. I'm not even getting Diablo III

My comment to him was based on more than just his posts here

If it weren't Blizzard, people would frown and whine at such a decision.

Blizzard is protected by the fanboy glass.

JigglyWiggly_

It's logic, judging by the popularity of the game, the servers are going to be loaded at launch.

google isn't bogged down

Not quite the same.

40 seconds. I just don't know what I'll do during that time. I mean, I've waited 12 years for this game, I'll not wait another 40 seconds longer than necessary.

I really don't think its going to happen. Blizzard is pretty well aware of their demand and have quite a bit of experience under their belt handling this level of traffice. Starcraft 2's launch was very smooth and that required online authentication for nearly everyone too. I expect D3 to be the same.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want you to play through the game and expect some deep psychological presentation of the characters.

If this helps it be a smoother launch, then I say go for it. I've already waited 10 years, I can wait another 40 seconds.

40 seconds? if they disguised it as a load screen no one would have ever noticed. Instead haters are going to stir up a sh!tstorm over nothing.

40 seconds of delay... not that much. I am sure Blizzard are going reduce the delay further as time goes along. It is better than the alternative.

I am glad I know this beforehand.

Because of what? In the end, there is no dialogue choice, something which you really like.

It's all pure gameplay, with story being complementary.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want you to play through the game and expect some deep psychological presentation of the characters.

It is very zoomed-out, epic story. It has very little personal and close-up story-telling.

So please, do not expect a Tolstoyan level of characterisation.

Ummm....because I have a few dozen friends getting it and its a dungeon romp where I can kill sh!t. That's about all there is to it.

Plus, why are you talking as if you seem to know what I like in games....I don't even know you

Because you posted in a TOR-related thread. Of course, many people posted there, but since your avatar is Halley Williams, you stood out when I scanned through the thread. So I checked you out and found that you like Mass Effect.

Mass Effect is almost the polar opposite of games like Diablo in the overall RPG sphere.

Also, you will kill a lot...TONS.

Try not to break your fingerbones.

It's really the not 40 seconds that's the issue. This is just another brick in the always-online-drm wall. If people could play off-line, like they did in the previous two Diablo games, I suspect this wouldn't be an issue at all.

My question to the people who don't think it's a problem is this: how much time is too much? Maybe not 40 seconds but how about 60 seconds? 120 seconds? Where do you draw the line and say, enough is enough?

I think if waiting 40 seconds results in an enjoyable STABLE online experience then it's worth it.

Or would people rather not wait any time and have a laggy game? The online component is there, DEAL WITH IT.

(BTW, Diablo 2 took longer to load back in the day than 40 seconds, just saying...)

I like a huge variety of games. obviously a dungeon romp isnt a story based game...I loved torchlight and still play it. Someones I want a particular type of game, and diablo is a well established co-op slaughterfest

I'd rather have to wait 40 seconds vs not being able to log in at all. Inevitable for the first few days, but should smooth out afterwards.

You aren't right though.

Diablo will have issues because it is going to launch at peak numbers with the login servers getting slammed. After the game has been live a while, the load the login servers will be experiencing will be less peaky and more gradual.

If they want to prevent hammering, they should do like everyone and put an incremental timer, that way they don't punish everyone with an annoying timer. ex.:1 second first login, 5 second next login, 15 seconds, 40 seconds, 1 minute, etc..

5-10 minutes. :P

I'm worried about the stability of the game. I hope I don't get disconnected and all that ****. First day, I might understand.. but when it comes to the weekend, it better be running smooth, or else... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

So people are seriously crying over a 40 second wait before they're going to play 4-5 hours at once? I mean, seriously? What the hell is wrong with some people... the crying over this game is riddicolous.

Welcome to these forums. People whine and cry about anything they can find. I guess they would rather have instant gametime and unstable connection than wait a whole 40 seconds.....lol. As for me, I'm gonna buy Diablo3 about a week later, so the issues are less.

Yea but you're going to have to wait SEVEN DAYS. How to live like that?? The world will stop turning in that case...

Completely fine by me. With the hours and hours of gameplay I know is ahead of me, 40 seconds of login time is NOTHING relative to the time spent playing the actual game. So long as it doesn't turn into *server offline* for the entire opening week...

I thought Diablo games were single player only. Why would they need to delay the login for that then?

Because all diablo games are coop multiplayer.
