Despite my passion for retail, Digital PC Gaming Downloads are indeed available on many sites. Here's a few:

Best Buy Selection- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat153600050007&type=category

Gamestop Selection- http://www.gamestop.com/downloadnow

Steam Selection- http://store.steampowered.com/

In a few years there will be no such thing as retail for PC Games. Even now you can go into a store and see maybe one small row for PC Games with outdated prices, like Legend cost $20 more than Underworld. Its ridiculous.

I like having a box, but DD is soooo much easier and time/cost effective (no gas, no tax). oh the dilemma :(

I agree. It is more convenient and with just a few clicks and keyboard strokes, there are a lot options on what you can download in a day. well, depending on your connection.

The decline in retail PC games doesn't bother me at all. Missing out on a shiny manual is not really an inconvenience, a pdf file is sufficient..

Only thing i would miss is maps etc, but those could also easily be scanned and added to the digital purchase in a pdf file or something like that.

It's here, already??? OMG, when did this happen, and why wasn't I informed earlier? ;)

It's kind of cool that Valve actually believes it's a myth that digital distribution cannibalizes retail (read Jason Holtman's statements about their experience with Day of Defeat).

Personally, I think at some point digital distribution will clearly be predominant, however, since I still prefer to buy retail when possible, I'd like to see both distribution channels coexist for a very long time.

Steam games still sell for the same price as physical copies bought online in my area, even more than physical copies in some cases.

-

Far Cry 2:

£34.99 on STEAM

£17.99 inc delivery on PLAY

-

Dawn of War 2:

£34.99 on STEAM

£22.99 inc delivery on PLAY

-

Fallout 3:

£26.99 on STEAM

£24.99 inc delivery on PLAY

-

Considering they have none of the costs of shop level retail I expect them to be cheaper, until they are STEAM is not a valid alternative for me.

The prices doesn't really seem that different then Steam granted there are no weekend deals. However check out the amount of games being offered which is far more efficent then what are being offered on retail shelves.

Couple hours with my slow internet (I see it max at about 700mb/sec or something)

I have a download limit and no credit card.

This makes things far more complicated for me, plus showing off a bunch of Windows folders and abstract files is not nearly as good as having a line of shiney boxes and cool cover art sitting on a shelf.

just my 2 cents ... I have used GoG.com and I found it a good site for older games. They sell games 100% DRM-free. Few other DD sites, 1. Gameshadow 2. stardock 3. Wild Tangent (casual games only)

It has been known that Steam doesn't transfer to other currencies well at all. All games here are about the same price unless their used or some sale is going on in store. The only games i usually buy via steam are weekend deals anyway.

Digital distribution is fine for those on broadband, or who can afford broadband. Unfortunately, that's not the majority, not in the United States at least. I dont' see it becoming the majority anytime soon, either. Retail, in the form of online sites like Amazon and Best Buy, and big box stores like Wal Mart (bleh!) will remain the primary sales point for games for quite some time, I feel. I'm not talking for a couple of years, I'm thinking decade(s).
