My download is finished.
I can enthusiastically confirm what others have stated - namely, that D2D simply downloads the entire disc into your downloads folder (mine, by default, was on my C: drive). The contents of this download appear to be exactly the same as the contents you would find on the DVD if you had bought a boxed copy from the store.
Once your download is complete you install the game (I installed mine to the E: drive), and then you move your download into the trash (if you want to). In order to be able to pause the download you can install the Download Manager if you want to, but I don't believe it's necessary. That said, I don't see why you wouldn't want to. It's a small file, and you can uninstall it once you're finished with it (I'm not going to, though).
In other words you really do just download the disc. That's it. There's no third-party application running here at all. No need to log onto a service or anything. Once the game is installed it's just a normal game, except that you don't have to put a DVD into the drive. The entire game just runs off the hard-drive. A beautiful service really.
That was my first purchase off D2D. Five dollars for a game that's barely even half-a-year old. I can honestly say that I will not hesitate to buy more games off D2D in the future. Much better than Steam.
Super glad I tried that.
(Riddick, by the way, looks like a fantastic game - it's amazing how quickly you can spot quality. And hey, it begins with a dream sequence!)
