Does D2D require a client and for you to be signed into your D2D account on that client to access your games after youve downloaded them?

I use Steam and Id prefer not having another proprietary software just to run games that I bought with that service. Also, does Direct2Drive provide you with the CD-keys of the games you buy? With Steam, I can register the EA CD-keys with the EA Download Manager and download and install a game outside of the Steam folder.

******* magnets. How do they work?

magnets. How they work yo

but seriously you buy the game and it adds it to your d2d account. Download the games with the comrade DL manageror whatever its called and then install them. It's actually pretty painfree :) you dont need tobe logged in to use them. once theyre on you dont need to use comrade ever again. And it does give you the cd key in your account page for the games.

You don't have to use their client or even their download manager. You download the install file, install the game like normal, activate it through them with the code they give you, and then play. You don't have to have any extra programs installed.

You don't have to use comrade, you can download directly from their website.

Ok so it is just a download manager and not a personal game library / buddy system like Steam. I can just buy the game from them, install it to my games folder, and uninstall the client?

Nice. Thanks guys. I was always under the impression that D2D is a Steam clone and that Id have to have their client running to run my games. Good to know its untrue.

Yes but I would not recommend using the Gamespy Comrade to get your games. That software is so damn ugly and user unfriendly. I use the fileplanet download manager and the games install fine with it.

This. They push it on you but you can step to the side and let it push past. Its really just a downloading service. It gets the job done but only really downloads. Once you download the games from them its no different than having a retail copy basically

Direct2Drive is an awesome service. Nothing like being able to download and play a game without the need for any third-party applications.

Only thing direct2drive is terribly slow... I mean like 9 hours for a download! Also I dont like the customer service... you can only talk to them through email and even then the answers they give you still dont really respond to the problem.

Must be you cause I always cap my download bandwidth with them (at 35 Mbit/s).

D2D sucks. Restricted to hell. I'd rather stick with Steam, Desura, GamersGate, etc. You get the picture.

What does that mean? I always liked D2D. No third party software to run. Just download. Plug in the code. Install. Play.

I use D2D all the time- great site. Not every game is going to install the same. They will download through D2D/Browser and either be their own setup or, depending on the game, through Steam.

Ive only bought Crysis 2 on D2D. I activated it on EA since I figured it would be easier in the long run. I had the option to get it from them. I was impressed. its simple and doesnt require much comitment on your part.

No matter where you buy BF3 you'll still need Origin.
