Hey this has been bothering me for a while but I never thought to ask here. Whenever I run Call of Duty 2 on my Mobility Radeon x300, which has DirectX 9.0c installed, it is extremely slow and unplayable. I have to set the settings to DirectX 7 to even play the game. Is it just because it's a laptop card and underpowered, or am I doing something wrong (besides gaming on a laptop)?

Yah, you had exactly the same issue I used to have! Wow! What are the chances!

Well, I had an Inspiron 9300 with an x300, and have always used to play CoD2 on it. You have to realize it is just a step above integrated, and if you want any performance don't expect much eye candy, as it will be as sweet as broccli. I was able to run CoD2 at 1024x800 on DX7 with edium texture, no AA. It looks comparible to CoD1, so at least it doesn't look that bad. Also, don't put yoursel down for DX7, I still use it for multiplayer, as you need as many frames as possible, even with my rig. CoD2 is a very demanding game, and a x300 will play it, it served me for a full year, but seriously, I'm giving you a link to upgrade your GPU. That is, if I guessed right, you have an Inspiron 9300/1705.

The price is a bit steep, but if you have a 9300, and basic knowledge of computers, you won't have too much trouble replacing your x300. The 7900gs will also work with your system, but you'll have to mod the fans to cool that beast a bit more. The 6800 will run CoD2 at max, it is a beast. Check your handbook you got with your PC, it will teach you how to upgrade and won't void your warrenty. I'm sorry for Assuming you have a 9300, but that is the only PC i know that has a x300.

You can still game with a x300, just dont expect much performance.

this card should not be used to play anything recent (like 3 years old), it's integrated and totally underpowered

Well, at least i got thev right brand! :)

I guess the RAM can pick up your video cards slack anyway. Don't worry, CoD2 is one of the most demanding games anyway.

Just wanted to interject something really quick. If you're playing COD2 online, you should be in DX7 mode anyway, as it doesn't render all that obnoxious haze which makes it ten times more difficult to see opponents. That is all.

yup i had the exact same problem with my radeon x600 in my dell 9150. had to run at lowest settings except for res. I just recently upgraded to a geforce 7900gs and it runs the game max settings+dx9 with good fps, although DX9 doesent really do much to the game except make things alot more shinier and as the poster above said it makes opponents more difficult to see.
