Well i was resizing my partition to install windows 7 with xp. I already have windows xp installed. I typed all the right things. Shift + f10, then diskpart, then list volumes, select volume 1 ( was by C drive ). I have about 170gb used, 150gb left. Around there, not sure about the exact numbers. Well i typed "shrink" and it's been about 1 hour and there's no sign of progress. All i see is that if i try to type anything i can't, because the undercurser thingamaber keeps blicnking so im guessing it's doing something..Anyways, any1 got any idea if it's an error, or if i just have to wait a long time. If i have to wait a long time, how long do i approx. do i have to wait? 4 hours?

NEW PROBLEM: after shrinking, they are split half and half. That means that my xp partition has 6.3gb left... I need alot more then 6.3gb. What do i do now?

How did you choose to do it? Messing with the partitions can take a long LONG time. When I did my Windows 7 install, I had to move the partition to the front of the disk (don't ask why, it was complicated). That process took a good number of hours, as I recall.

I just typed "shrink" because apparently gparted doesn't work. So basically it moves half and half. I'm guessing it's going to be a couple of hours.

Why does gparted not work? I had issues with gparted and Windows 7 until I downloaded the very latest version of gparted.

Well I don't know what version you are using, but it is worth downloading the latest if you don't have it. Like I said, I had the same problem until I upgraded my gparted disk.

Mhmm alright thanks. Is there a way to move all my files from my C drive to here? I don't really want to have to reinstall everything + fixing my object dock took me several hours.

If you are able to boot into 7, you ought to be able to see the partition of your other install from within 7.
