I made this build for another thread, which the guy wanted an Intel rig and that GPU. Though this is certainly a great looking PC.

I know you said to not mention build your own, but you can build your own in 2-3 hours and build one beast of a PC for $1500. The only hard part is picking the parts, but I know there are at least 15 guys who will do that for you if you start another thread asking for a parts list for an awesome $1500 PC.

What he didn't mention is that for the added GPU muscle, the i7 had to be replaced with a Phenom II. I'm not going to bother arguing on which platform is better, as both platforms have their own pro's and cons.

I didn't mention that it was a Phenom II setup, but why would I? The video cards matter more. My point still stands that what you made before is better than that one...

I figured it was P2 build. With 2 5870s I would go with an i7. Also there is no reason he can't get another 5870 a little later on. So in the end he will probably have a better PC with the i7 build.

Its not that hard, just go AMD Phenom 2 instead of intel.

No reason to get upset over the fact that I think it is better to go with an i7.

I'm not upset...:P  But w/e...maybe if he lives near a microcenter he could get a 5850 crossfire + i7-920 setup. :D (if he ever tri-fires, that would kick some serious ass)

5770 will not last you very long. Go with 58xx series... If you want a more affordable prebuilt, go to www.cyberpowerpc.com

No, just get one good card... either a 5850 or a 5870. If you can't get a 5870 into the build for $1500 then you are being ripped off.

You will have a much better gaming experience with that card instead of the 5770. I would do that.

I'm pretty sure that the OP is more inclined to go for a prebuilt. W/E, I'll throw this in anyways.

CPU: Intel Core i7 920

  • This is an in-store pickup only. If you don't have a microcenter nearby, you'll have to pay an extra $70 if you order from Newegg

Motherboard: ASRock x58 Extreme

  • It's cheap, overclocks well, and has most of the features seen on the Asus P6T among others. To me, that's worth a $100 price reduction.

GPU/OS: 5870 and Win.7 Home Premium 64bit

Second GPU: XFX 5870

  • It's already fast in a single card configuration, and two pretty much defines overkill at 1080P. I'm just adding this to demonstrate how much you can speed you can potentially gain by building it yourself.

Memory: Crucial 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1333

  • It has notoriously high CAS timings, but from what I've seen, a better GPU will almost always show better performance gains than faster RAM. And IIRC, this stuff overclocks pretty well too.

Case: NZXT Gamma

  • The outer shell isn't as sleek as other higher priced mid-towers, but for $30, it's hard to find a case with a better build quality. And it fits a 5870 to boot.

Fans: 2x Yate Loon med-speed

  • Yep, that's right. I'm suggesting buying the fans from Ebay. I bought a few from the same guy mainly because it's considerably pricier elsewhere (not to mention that they're very good fans). And yes, you'll need a couple extra fans if you plan on running dual 5870s.

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB

  • I had to skimp on storage to allow for beefier parts. This drive is fast, but you may feel a bit deprived of storage space as time progresses.

Optical: Sony DVD Burner

Total comes to: $1558.40 before shipping or rebates.

I know you said to not mention build your own, but you can build your own in 2-3 hours and build one beast of a PC for $1500. The only hard part is picking the parts, but I know there are at least 15 guys who will do that for you if you start another thread asking for a parts list for an awesome $1500 PC.

Even someone with experience can't build a PC from start to finish in 2-3 hours....not to mention a person that has little to no experience and no time to do it in.....bad advice !

Maybe it's just me, but I'm able to construct a system within an hour (minus installation) provided the case is easy to work with.

The last PC I built, I had up and running in an hour and a half. Thats full build with full windows install. Windows updates took a little longer, but you can do that while your watching TV or having dinner.

What about the memory should I pay $50.00 more for 1333Mhz DDR3 vIGAMEIv

No if you pick the standard aurora system with the Ati 5870 and the 6 GB ram and you're all set for at least the next 3 years.

Any modern PC is better than a xbox360. It should be able to handle current games in 1080p without problems.

Most of the time, mainly because for concerns for anti-piracy. It honestly isn't much of a bother if you have a half-decent DVD drive.

Your system should even handle Crysis without becoming unplayable. So yes, assuming you pick the 5870 for the Dell, it will be visually much better than an XBOX 360.

Im glad everyone suggest ibuypower and building my own .O dont want to come off as a jerk because I do appreciate the advice but ipower have some pretty bad reviews along with customer service. Also I have a $1500.00 credit with dell that has no financing for 12 months that really helps.I can see if those cards are a option on the alienware.Do I need dual cards or is one fine enough?vIGAMEIv
I don't like when people base their decisions off of "bad reviews" online. Yes the internet is a good way to obtain information....but the info you find should not directly affect your decision on what you should or should not buy. Find me a business that doesn't have any bad reviews. People tend to focus on the negative and voice their opinions when something bad happens. It's a lot easier to find bad reviews then it is to find good reviews. People tend to post bad reviews over posting good ones.... Now I'm not saying that ibuypower is a great company, but don't judge them too quickly. They keep their costs down by using "less" name brand products and skimping out on shipping a bit. Their Tech Department does suck for customer service - I tried dealing with them a few times and the people working the tech lines are dumb as rocks. Other then that, their computers do tend to come to you all ready to go without any problems. Would I suggest them....? I guess it depends on the situation you're in. For you I'd say if you have a $1500 credit then go with Dell, though you will greatly overpay them for a gaming PC. There is no way around that. If you didn't have that credit to use, I'd suggest looking at a few other PC companies (like ibuypower for example) or to just build your own. Depending on the GPU, one card is generally enough. If you picked up a 5770, I'd think you'd might want to get a second one down the road. Otherwise a 5870 would be enough on its own to last you a long while.
