I've started looking around on my computer and I found that I have a AMD Athlon II X35 425 and 3GB of ram. I'm not sure if it's time to upgrade either of those (all ready have a good GPU) and if I do, what a good choice would be, and how it would effect gaming and overall computer use.

Edit. My GPU is a GTX 460 and my OS is Windows 7 64 bit

what gpu do you have? what version of windows are you using (32-bit or 64-bit be specific)

so far its not actually that bad. if i were to upgrade id get a phenom II x4 and up your ram if it was allowable (32-bit OS's cant see more than 3-3.5). id also need to know what gpu you have. you may think its good and thats all fine n dandy with me but it helps on my side of the table.

I think it's time for you to upgrade your cpu. You don't need to upgrade GPU or RAM, though (wait, what resolution do you play at?)

Well, the GTX 460 is fine for that resolution, I don't think upgrading it is necessary (unless you're one of those guys that use 32x anti-aliasing). But I think it's a good idea to upgrade your cpu.

i recommend upgradijng to a phenom II x4 such as a 925 or 945 (varying on budget). upgrading to 4-5gb ram wouldnt be a bad idea either.

It looks like a good price. Do you know how much of a difference it will make?

pretty nice but nothing worth proclaiming as revolutionary. you would certainly see improvements in rts's and quad core ready games like bfbc2, WoW, and dirt 2/3.

you would experience shorter load times if only in seconds of pieces of seconds on a case to case basis.

you will also see alot more speed in multi-taksing or cpu dependand programs such as say hosting game servers. if you play minecraft you will greatly benefit from the fourth core and added cache.

Your system is starting to slow down in today's games but is still capable of playing them. The longer you wait the better system you'll upgrade to as new tech is added and prices always go down as time passes. Once you get to a certain level of frustration at the slow machine then pull the trigger on the upgrade. Keep in mind that if you upgrade instead of building a new system then the upgrade could consist of adding a new motherboard as the current motherboard may not support the CPU's your eyeing. Start educating yourself and then make a decision once you've got all the knowledge and prices figured out.
