or better yet...SATA cables.Motokid6

And ASUS just released 18x DVD Burners with SATA.

So now I don't even have to use rounded IDE's for my optical drives!

Can't see the ASUS drives at newegg.

They do have the Samsung:

We've got the ASUS drives here and ready to buy in Australia.  Odd that we should get them before you.

In related news, finally.  I mean, we've had SATA HDD's for years, and we're only now starting to see optical as well.

You could use a bridge board to convert your drives to sATA.

No. I have SATA cables to link up to the hard drive. I'm still with IDE for DVD Drive though.

Just get some rounded IDE cables, or even wrap the ribbon cables with electrical tape (fold them in half twice, then wrap them.) That's what I did with my x-fi link cable.

Those high IDE cables really cause airflow problems :) Glad I moved to SATA.

there is an alternative...you can get an sata hdd and use sata cables to hook it up instead of ide...the same can be done with optical drives but like hard drives, it requires that the optical drive is sata

i wouldnt think so...especially since there arent many affordable ones out there...all i ever see is plextor drives that are upwards of 100 dollars and have bad support i hear...thats why when i saw the liteon ones i decided to pick on up...ive held off on getting a dvd burner...really dislike those ide cables

I have a 1 Lite-on combo drive, and 1 Lite-on DVD burner both SATA. I had 2 of the combo drives, but the motherboard could not see either drive if they were both hooked up.
Also some games will not play or even install, due to there darn copy protection.  I am going rounds with EA Games, to find out how/if I can ever play Black&White 2 on my SATA drives.

It has something to do with the copy protection. Only certain games (Black & White 2 expansion, and Silent Hunter 3 that I know of) will give an error like this. I then reluctantly put my IDE drive back in and it worked fine. So I put my IDE drives back in and left my SATA drives in, now I have 4 optical drive, sorta overkill but I like it.  I am still talking with EA about this.  As much as 4 drives comes in handy some times, I still would prefer to drop the IDE drives completely.

A cheaper solution is an IDE to SATA adapter...
